Chopping gear stick

Did this in my old 1.8 and it was much nicer. Cut about 2 inches off and it made the car much nicer to drive.
Now with the gti, can you cut them down? Its about 4 foot long! Only thing im thinking is how is the cable attached to the stick? is it just a clip i can slide down or do i need to do some serious pikey bodging with some liquid metal?

Cut and weld job would be best IMO, I made a cable pull thing to go on my cut down one that was hidden under the gator but it was a faf making it.

Theres a plastic sleeve bonded to the stick which the lift up collar sits on and holds the cable too.

On the gear stick you have a plastic part glued to it. Quite solidly as I tried to remove it... This is what the plastic part of the cable clips in to. Then the lift reverse "collar" sits over this, which is where the end of the cable attaches to.

To do what you're wanting would take fair modification. I'd definitely recommend doing it to another one so you can just swap it, instead of mutilating your only one

I think Chris is right, I think you'd have to cut a section out below the plastic part I mentioned, and weld it back together. Not worth the hassle IMO

I need to remove my gear knob/stick to fit quickshift, does it still just pull like other models but leave the reverse clips on the stick?
and will it be able to slide out the bottom still?

Just a thought, there are many cars/vans that use this system, run down the scrappy and if there is a version that is a bit more simple that you could use?

That bit of plastic is bonded and can guarantee it isnt coming off in 1 piece. Peugeot dont sell it on its own

What about my idea about using one off a different car/van, i know a peugeot expert uses this system with a real short gear box.



Forgot to say earlyer . When i go from DT to the 6 it feels massive gigity. To the point that its uncomfortable .

Tbh could pikey it right up, smash the bit of plastic off and cable tie the cable to the rod (would eventually slip up) or liquid metal it....because that shit fixes everything!
