When the coil packs start breaking down, they normally show issues first when the engine is hot so could well be a coil pack breaking down

It did have a miss fire yesterday but sorted itself out. Going to start running the car on v power to see if it runs any better as I dont know what the ecu has been mapped on so could be causing the engine problem if running too lean. Been told this by a couple people now

Why would it run lean if it weren't on vpower? Lean is because it just hasn't got enough fuel to keep the afrs the right side of stoichiometric.

I would bet same as Niall, coil pack breaking down when hot.

He on about running lean thats why my piston was damaged. Tried putting my car on the diagnostics yesterday and it wouldnt pick it up for some reason?

Ah right, sorry. I thought you were saying because the map was set up for vpower (ie high octane) without it, it ran lean. Which is utter tosh.

Lean running causing piston failure, that's more plausible.

What reader / dials are you trying to use?

My mate has a snap-on code reader thing. Wouldnt connect to it at all but worked fine when plugged into the girlfriends 206 gti. No idea why tho? Hopefully getting on the rollers next week what will tell me more and on looking for a air/fuel wideband gauge. Something like AEM or innovate

I use innovate... IMO, best you will get for the money.

Assuming you are still on the stock Marelli ECU - SNAP ON should work fine. That's what we use to pull the datastream on my car.

It's a £2000 garage spec one. Not mine to be honest, been using it at the tuner's place. It's one with a special "key" you put in for the relevant car.

Sounds like the one my mate has, key slots inside the plastic box thing on the wire from the diagnostic to the plug in the fuse box.

What spec innovate do you use? Been looking tonight and there are a few different ones

Had to buy some silicone water pipes as im going to have to move the rad forward to allow the extra room for the inlet so bought some nice yellow wire reinforced silicone hose. Already got an alloy thermostat adapter from spoox. Wasnt cheap but was my only iption really as i couldnt find a 205 take off. Will need a slim line fan to as the rad is going to be close to the bumper so standard fan housing isnt going to fit.

Not too happy with AutoSiliconeHoses.com ordered the yellow flex pipe off their ebay store and they told me they wont be stocking it any time soon and sent me a link to their website to buy it. So bought it last week and got the same email again monday saying they wont be doing yellow so had to get black. Suppose it will do... turned up today along with my slimline fan.
Also picked up another GTi6 to strip for parts Yesterday. To be honest the car is in pretty good shape but will be getting stripped for parts. I will be keeping a few bits for the nile likes of hubs, interior and other little bits and bobs and everything else will be sold to fun omex fitting and mapping. Already removed the very good condition leather & suede interior to replace the leather and cloth interior meridian interior that was in mine.

Been on pulling a few more bits and bobs off the black 6 today to go onto the nile. Pulled out a canny set of infinity speakers with tweeters and amps. Also pulled the bilstein B4 shocks off the back axle and found an FSE boost valve too. No idea where that even came feom but never mind i will have it anyway :lmao

Then I caught this little fucker buzzing around my utility room

Got the Bilstein rear shocks fitted and sorted my manifold out abit to stop it blowing as well, pai ted a spare set of cam covers yellow to go with the brembos. Now means I have a silver set, black set, red set and yellow set haha. Made a start on pulling the engine out of the black 6 as well but got bored of that and ended up helping my mate stick a VTS engine in his VTR and pulled the front end off his berlingo van ready to remove the engine. Hopefully have hubs changed over tomorrow, radiator pulled forward, lambda wires extended and a few other bits.
Tried my mates white 1.2s up against my car to see what they look like. Quite like them, tempted to do mine white or Yellow B)

Just working on little bits and bobs at the minute so I have less to do when I come to fit my inlet hopefully by the end of the month. Changed my hubs over at the weekend as my driverside ball joint hole was ovaled. Fitted new ball joints and track rod ends. Yesterday I bulled the front end back off to fit the slim line fan ready for moving the rad forward and fitted the ASH silicone flexi top water pipe. Oh and painted my tow hook to match my brakes B)

Looks good mate first time I've had a look through here but look forward to seeing your plans work out

How did changing that rad hose work mate, I thought there was a hose that came off of that pipe or is that something not needed?

The pipe that comes off the top rad pipe is for the standard oil cooler but thats all been replaced with a mocal thermostat sandwich plate and front mounted oil cooler. Just trying to get the little bits out the way now ready for the rad and slam panel to be moved forward to make room for the inlet. Hopefully be able to get everything fitted in the next couple of weeks but all depends when I can get booked in for mapping

Now hopefully have a date set for mapping Smile Tuesday 6th May so looks like my next bank holiday weekend will be spent preparing the car ready for the Tuesday morning. Got a few more little bits and bobs on the way now, Just ordered an Oil pressure gauge, Carbon sheet, alloy block for Throttle body adapter.

Will be running a standard ported throttle body for the time being to get it up and running.
As for mapping there is a garage local to me who specialise in omex and are going to do me a live map. There called Autolink I think?

Been messing on over the past couple of days with the spare centre console I had and decided to lower my radio down and fit a carbon radio blank for my gauges to sit in. Radio is in and wired up but gauges are just in place for the time being. I will be replacing the digital volt gauge for a racetech gauge to match my oil pressure gauge at some point. May also remove the top right hand vent and stick a carbon blank in there too for when I get an AEM. Quite happy with how it has turned out.

Not got alot done this weekend but did sort out the lights on my heater control and while on with that fitted another carbon blank to the top vent ready for when I buy an AEM wideband gauge. Also had my throttle body adapter made so now I have everything there ready to fit my inlet. Jim is going to make a start on the omex loom tomorrow and modify the fuel rail through the week so once they are done its all ready to go Big Grin
