Well, its Kris' old car as you know, and he fitted an engine with apparently ~60k on it then never used it because he couldnt drive, so it shouldnt be over 80k at the most now, but the shell has done around 150k.

Cars on 135k, engine is on under 80k, so yeah would be a shame if the engine needs replacing

Wont be the rings, not to be causing blue anyway, ive ran xuds with stones going down the intake for years and its never got that bad, even with chronic bore scoring, blue smoke is near enough always breather / turbo related.... or worst case head gasket....
If its pressurzing the crap out of the coolant / spewing it everywhere, and you can confirm the water pump IS pumping water (idle from cold and see if water comes out the bleeds like normal) then itl be the head / head gasket.... more often than not its a cracked head rather than the gasket itsself.

Darren - When I met up with Jake his rad was totally empty, he poured in about 2 litres and after about 30 seconds it all started gushing out of the waterpump 'area', and thats with the engine off.

The bottom rad hose runs past there.....check you've not blown a hole in it like I did when my HG had gone on the 1.4.......water all fell out as soon as it was put in....

Cv book went a few weeks ago, hense the grease everyware around that area! We have just looked at the turbo and it has about 3mm of play in it so fingers crossed thats what is causing the oil / blue smoke.
