So retimed the engine, cambelt looked fine,
Manually crank and quite strange, gets at the end of a full 360 rotation and locks, won't go any further. It's definitely not just a compression stroke, it's pretty locked.
Going to try and start, nothing to lose

Cars had it... Gearbox is wedged (noticed also the bell housing cover on the bottom was missing) so needs a new gearbox / or un'wedging.
Retimed but god knows if it would start
On the hunt for a new motor now

Its 'wedged'? How the hell does a gear box wedge? Tried jacking it up at the front and turning the wheels with the car in neutral?

tried; still locked, it physically won;t turn by hand or by starter; tried taking the starter off incase something were wedged here, nope.

oui; the wheels turn but no gear/fly ofcourse as it's not engaged to a gear

tried; also tried rolling the car and dumping the clutch in first to try and chuck it free that way, nothing; literally hit a brick wall of force

But theres no replacement for displacement! Oh wait, we are not stupid americans! Dum, ill give you a days ban for every 0.1 of a litre more you insist is going to make a massive difference over a standard 2.0HDi that you already have and there is nothing wrong with!

If the wheels turn at all the gearbox isn't jammed. If you're still confused have a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPaUJfA1KsY
Must have bent the valve fairly seriously if it jams up the engine. :S

Not a bad shout; thanks for the replies, but in fairness I really have not the time to replace the head, just started my post grad course and start "work" next week. I think I'm going to have to get a small, cheap run around for now and break the 205

Err man up. Could swap the head in a morning and have it running providing there us no serious piston or bore damage

Is the only reason i'm not fixing it.
IF anything does go wrong i'm literally stranded. I NEED a car more than ever as mentioed above. I might consider repairing it in time but it is just sitting in a garage at the moment...
Things to consider over the next 7 days; i've got a car im borrowing til then

If you pay my fuel I'll come and whip the head off for you or I'll even get the train down tomorrow afternoon if you put me up for the night.
So you say you get almost a full turn at the crank dies it go the full turn back the other way and lock? Im still gonna guess snapped cam or dropped precup.

That was initially; I couldn't get it to turn, I was then in the mindset that something was broken, I'll try turn it over with the starter; had a small turn then locked up.
Now it has no turn either way
I probably caused more of an issue but either way, it will need taking apart at some point.
Cheers Chris, gonna wait til half term I think then have a poke at it
Feel free to join then!
