Haha good work, 306 is a great car To bad there so damn popular / such a bad name for themselves! heh its a way off the dyno yet, lots of pushing needed first, but get the gas masks ready for FCS 2013!
Well ever since the motor went in the car, it has been running without a stat, so constant flow to the radiator...the original HDI stat housing was frankly a total pisstake / took up half the engine bay, which space was IMO much better used for turbos than holding water for no reason at all!
So the engine went in with a simple homemade flange to allow the rad hose to connect to the head...which is all well and good, but obviously no stat, means serious over cooling of the coolant, and in turn, meant the thing runs at like 40deg / 60 flat out, which is far from ideal, so after re arranging the boost pipes a bit the other day, I have now fitted my external stat housing just down in the front...
The housing with stock PSA stack inside (83deg):
And in position, there is a bypass pipe thats out of view, that routes the water back to the water pump until the stat opens, allowing the engine to circulate water / warm up evenly.
In position:
Now holds its temp perfectly at 83deg, yet to drive as front end is still missing!

Looks smart that.
Do you plan on changing the fixings to some shiny stainless / titanium ones? Everything looks so neat and shiny then there's a rusty bolt head in the same picture!
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

If you can do that build..im sure you could respray that 306 and wax oil etc. with your eyes closed
You should put that engine in a 205 gti rally rep/fast road ,flocked dash, omp wheel & cage, carbon door cards
It would be EPIC!!!!

Hopefully FCS next year?
As for build costs, I dont really keep a running total, but bear in mind I do all the work (well 90%) myself, so its only really parts and welding supplys etc that go into the costs...
Small update,
Have just pulled the motor out again this afternoon, Ive been running it at 25 psi for the last few weeks, and it goes ok (some have seen video can vouch) but obviously 25psi and mild tune is far from my idea of ideal....But I am literally hitting the limits of the head, I cant crank the boost because it floats valves (pis weak valve springs) and cant rev it any harder (im ditching lifters at 6200rpm) so have decided to pull the motor, and give the head a good beef up, so bigger valves, solid lifters, re ground cam for more lift / to match the lifter life ramp, some serious porting (hdi16 heads are tragic!) and some other small modifications....which should allow me to open the sucker up!
I am also fitting a new primary turbo to the setup while its apart, as after some calculations, the current setup will hit its efficiancy peak before I want it to, so upgrading the current 2256v primary to a GTB2260VK, which when in peak flow in compound with the big wg turbo, should move a serious ammount of air, just what I need!
Did a video, although there has been an epic editing fail hence the size of it, but theres a time lapse half way through, which was my first attempt at one, so hasnt worked out to well as didnt set camera to take picture often enough etc, and the res is useless due to free software!
Getting it out was a bit more of a ballache than the average change out, as i didnt want to have to pull the manifold off as its a total farce to do, but you cant remove the tranny mount without taking it off, so some grinding / drilling via wheel arch was needed, and will weld up the mount so that in future it can be bolted externally, removing the need to do it from inside which is imposible with a pair of turbos in the way!
Some photos i took on the way out:
Front end half off:
Rad etc out:
Few hammers / grinders and man handling later:
Out!
And a video with time lapse, albeit a bit fail!

Il defo be going FCS for the first time next year of thats the case darren cant wait to see this beast running in the flesh, the work youve put in is awesome
How difficult is this engine for building, setup and tuning apppsed to the XUD i know you went for this as you fpund the XUD limiting for the power figuires you were achieving
Would love to be able to do something like this maybe bit too much for me as just learining more about the pumps atm and stuggling to get my head around turbos in depth lol
Keep up the awesome work pal

The basic concept is very much the same at the end of the day, but you certainly have to be much much more carefull with what your shoving in it, as its very easy to melt a piston / bore with DI if you get it wrong...injector spray angle / nozzle size is critical / one of the hardest parts to get right / get working well, the pump is just the same to build as an IDI pump, altho like ive been saying for a while, unless you have something rigged up to test run the pumps / get them working correctly, its really not ideal building them at home, as you end up with a very cocked up setup....
As with everythings its just time and paticiance, the engine has been in and out more times than most people fill there car will fuel, and I say that seriously, this engines only done about 1k miles, and has been out / in like 6-7 times now, but never worth giving up as you end up with something different / surprising, which i enjoy

Sweet i have been following your project for years now and just get excited everytime i see it, think il stay on an xud for now until my knowledge and understsnding of engines increases but ive been getting a fair bit of help of a company near me high tech diesel specialists, they been showing me stuff on my dinner breaks as just a stone throw from work and im learning more each time im there messin so hopefully put it all into practise soon
Will be keeping a close eye on the headwork you will be doing to this sounds interesting and a challenge as guessin not many have even done anything like this

Like the new video format, lets us see more of the build without having to watch for 40 minutes, ideal for the short attention span.

Well hoping to port the hell of the head, as its very restrictive in its stock form, partically on the exhaust side....I want to fit bigger valves, replace the hydro lifters with solid slugs, regrind the cams to suit solid lifters, and hopefully add a touch of lift at the same time, and also replace the valve springs for some stronger ones as the stock hydro springs are pathetic!! XUD head FTW here thats for sure

Heh well it should be better once I get it sorted, I had the phone upside down, which is why the video appears tiny as the aspect ratio is all screwed up, 3rd time lucky i hope!
