So, what seems to have happened is the woodruff key has worked its way loose and caused all sorts of issues.
It is a bit hard to make it out in the photos, but there are parts of the crank pulley jammed in the pulley behind.
Initially I felt quite fortunate, as it did not go into the cambelt, but the end of the crank is mashed.
Such a shame, as the engine still runs fine. Ah well, it's lasted 7 months
