Sad Times Are Sad - c.gerrard - 27-11-2013 So, what seems to have happened is the woodruff key has worked its way loose and caused all sorts of issues. It is a bit hard to make it out in the photos, but there are parts of the crank pulley jammed in the pulley behind. Initially I felt quite fortunate, as it did not go into the cambelt, but the end of the crank is mashed. Such a shame, as the engine still runs fine. Ah well, it's lasted 7 months RE: Sad Times Are Sad - Danny2009 - 27-11-2013 Bad times Get it welded back on job done RE: Sad Times Are Sad - Tom - 27-11-2013 So the cambelts still there and the engine is fine? What the hell are you moaning about aha lucky as shit!! RE: Sad Times Are Sad - Piggy - 27-11-2013 cant you replace the pulley? RE: Sad Times Are Sad - darrenjlobb - 27-11-2013 Change both pulleys / keyway and the bolt and you will be good to go. The crank's fairly mashed though, as you can see in the 1st picture, surely it'll just go again? RE: Sad Times Are Sad - londondan86 - 27-11-2013 Exactly the same thing happened on my xrdt. Changed both pulleys, cleaned up the keyway with a dremel and put the crank pulley on stupid tight. Engine was fine 20k later (when the hg went)! RE: Sad Times Are Sad - c.gerrard - 27-11-2013 Ok, thought the damage done to where the key sits was too great. So, if a new pulley is put on, it should be all good? RE: Sad Times Are Sad - londondan86 - 27-11-2013 Just get it all back together, get some threadlock on the pulley bolt as well. Once its all on it shouldn't go anywhere. Even if it does then you are not much worse of than you thought you are now!! As said, mine did EXACTLY this and lasted 20k (could well be more than that) RE: Sad Times Are Sad - LewisG306 - 27-11-2013 Ouch RE: Sad Times Are Sad - darrenjlobb - 27-11-2013 Yeah, its mashed, but with new bits, and a good tightening, i expect it will be fine. Ive seen worse.... RE: Sad Times Are Sad - c.gerrard - 27-11-2013 My concern is that because I am wanting to sell the car, I don't want to take risks. I would just feel incredibly guilty if in 'x' miles/weeks, it was to fail! We'll put it back together then and see if it works RE: Sad Times Are Sad - r3k1355 - 28-11-2013 Sell if for f*ck all then. If you spend 400-500 quid on a car and it makes 20K before it go's pop then you'd be pretty happy. RE: Sad Times Are Sad - londondan86 - 28-11-2013 Just be honest when you sell it then. If it goes to someone on here they will know the score anyway and if it does die then at leas there will be a community here with advice on what to do next. RE: Sad Times Are Sad - c.gerrard - 28-11-2013 Yeah, it'll get fixed as best it can be and taking that into account, I'll drop the price. RE: Sad Times Are Sad - darrenjlobb - 30-11-2013 I cant see there being any problem with that as long as you use two new pulleys, and torque the bolt TIGHT with locktight...the key dosnt hold strain anyway once its tight, EVERYTHING just pushs against the rear of the crank, so unless its so worn it wont run true, it should be fine |
