So as things stand there is nothing that states my car is a GTi other than the first bit of the VIN I believe is correct for a GTi!
In short I wanted something official to state it is a GTi and ideally find out where it was first sold (as it's imported from somewhere, but I don't know where). If anyone can help, I'll have to owe then a drink or something small for their car
It's really odd that Peugeot are saying their records only go back 15 years. The parts department of a Peugeot dealership should be able to pull up the details of your car today from Servicebox using your VIN. My local one (closed last year) were able to pull up my vehicle details when it was over 20 years old. There is a tab that will show all of the vehicle details & trim it came with from the factory.
As for the VIN, you are right in saying that it confirms your chassis left the factory with an RFS (XU10J4RS, GTI-6) engine in it. i.e., it is a GIT-6. Whether it still has the same engine it left the factory with is another matter & you would need Peugeot to confirm the original engine number for you. (I've got a downloaded version of Servicebox but it doesn't allow me to search by VIN.
