Depends what tyres you're using and model and engine combo. So a gti6 or hdi hatch on 195/50/15 should be 35f 33r iirc. Make it an estate and the rear pressure needs to be brought up to match the front. Put a load of weight in the back and you'll want the fronts up a couple of psi ans the rears up to 38-40.
Basically less body/engine weight needs less pressure and vice versa. Same goes for tyre profile, lower profile tyres will need a bit more pressure. So a gti6 on 17s will want to be running about 37f 35r. If the tyres are extra load rated (harder sidewalls) you want to knock off a couple of psi. Runflats go down a couple more psi again.
I personally run 80 profiles on 14"s on an estate at 32psi all round. This is all based on what i've seen at work with manufacturers specifying tyre pressures for all sorts of different vehicles.
