Most of the 4x4s you'll be looking at have a gross weight in excess of 2.5T meaning that the max you'll be able to tow is just 1 tonne and no horse boxes are plated that low so you won't be able to tow it.
Remember that legally the weight is the plated gross (max) weight of the trailer and the plated gross (max) weight of the vehicle.
If you don't want to do a towing test then something like a 406 is your best bet for max towing weight as they gross at just shy of 2 tonne and have a 1.5tonne towing weight so you could tow a trailer plated up to 1.5 tonne.
Other option is to buy a transit sized horse box as they tend to be drivable on a standard license with 2 horses in
