Thank you for the balanced responses.

My gut feeling is to avoid this one, which I will. If I was mechanically inclined, I would offer £200 and do it up myself. Trouble is, he's adamant it's worth £500...  Rofl Itwasntme

I was brought up to believe that it's worth buying a motor when the previous owner has serviced it regularly.

Plenty more fish in the sea...
