Its tough, but I'd just move on and take it on the chin.
Watched someone reverse into the zx and take the door out, chap drove off and despite me having reg details I didn't want the hassle in the end.
Could always get in touch and offer to settle for less than his / your excess. Or get a quote from a bodyshop and see what he thinks, shouldn't be too much to do a professional job.
Write it off in your head, and if he ends up contributing towards repair its a bonus.
