So put the 309 up on the ramp yesterday as I knew there was an area of rust to address around the rear bumper mount.

Due to having no arch liners all the mud and water gets flicked up into this area by the back wheel.
So got the rear bumper off and got poking around and found a hole

So dug off the old flaking underseal around the area

Then had a look inside

And chopped it out a bit

Need to get in with a wire wheel or something to try and shine it up.
This is the other side which I'll address too

Also got this thing running underneath the back of the car...suspected tank breather?

The chassis runners and other metal under the underseal is solid, despite its looks, is there anything anyone can recommend to paint on it to prevent further rusting? I seem to remember Eddy C on Wheeler Dealers puts something on the metal before priming.
Also any better way of removing the underseal? I've got the majority off with a screwdriver/chisel where the moisture has got in behind has peeled off easily. Other areas its a bit more of a task. Was thinking wirewheel on a grinder?
Next is to make up a plate to sit over the hole and stitch it in
