I think demanding the car to be repaired all depends on what car it is and how much you like it. If it was my Corsa for example, I'd just let them write it off, take the money and get a new one. If it's a shiny 6I'd be wanting it repaired!
I guessed this much, I was just pointing out that if its not your fault then the car doesn't have to be written off because its uneconomical to repair
