I think you're right. People thought;
"why should I pay £xxx for this 206, that isn't as good as the 306 it replaced, and isn't as good as the Renaultsport Clio"
And they were right to think that. Plus I think everyone still had the Gti 138 in the back of their mind. There really is no excuse for that gearbox in the 206 though. Sure, I'm not yet used to it, but I can tell its inferior to that of any 205, 106, 306 or 406 I've driven.
