Look at modern day equivalents. Meganes for example. You see shit loads of the basic ones on the road but how many R26s do you see? Not many. Same goes for all hot hatches at the moment and probably will for a while. If you think, the GTi was as near as 20k new which could by you a boring motorway cruiser but with loads more spec (and probably a VAG tax ). Unfortunately there isn't many of us out there that really enjoy driving lol.
