The problem with Greenstuff certainly used to be (no recent experience) that they kept changing the compound or had massively inconsistant batches, as you'd get one set that worked well enough on a road car, only for the next set to be dreadful with absolutely no cold bite, a distinctly wooden feeling pedal and/or habit of fading quite easily.
I suspect this is the reason why you get such a mixed response.
Also you need to remember that in many cases replacing the tired worn out no names pads that a previous owner fitted years ago with a decent OE quality replacement would yield a significant improvement on its own and almost certainly be more than sufficient for road use if the rest of the braking system is upto scratch.
Personally, I would go with Ferodo, Carbon Lorraine or Mintex if I were wanting something uprated beyond OE.
