If it ain't broke, don't fix it - there is no reason to shy away from a cheap proven way to double your horsepower on these engines.
Advising people not to do it on the basis that lots of other people have done it with great success is idiotic.
Whereas a 40mm drop + clones might be considered aesthetic and therefore subjective, engine power is pretty objective and doesn't fall out of fashion too often.
