I'll be honest, I know more about 306s than petrol VAGs!!
Does seem odd though, only time I had something similar was on a corsa when I went to charge the battery.....and accidently put 45amps through the entire electrical system!
Everything came on, wipers washers, lights etc. :oops:
There is something in the alternator to stop it overcharging the system though (cant think whats its called, mind blank) so I can't see it being that.
Phil could be right with an earth fault or a live short somewhere but it'd be a bugger to trace!
