Non pug car problem - Moonstone2.0 - 14-05-2012 New problem with my parents 2000 Golf V5. Last few weeks there have been strange things happening. Heaters being random. Cold on hot, hot on cold and sometimes just not working. Then a juddering from the engine. Really bad under load from time to time. Sometimes the car is fine but sometimes it feels like it has square wheels. Really underpowered when the juddering is there. Could be running on 4 cylinders and knocking about. Then the built in navi goes crazy. Restarts, cant find places and just stops. My mum told me she had this problem without the juddering (just electrical faults) two years ago and one day it just totally cut out in the middle of the road completely dead. AA took her to kwikfit (how dare they!) and they apparently (who knows) installed a new alternator for £700 and its been fine since the other week. Engine management light has been on for 5 years and no garage has ever been able to clear it so cant tell if that would have come on lately. Drove to work today without any extra electrical on and the car ran ok. Any ideas? Got my wedding in 12 days and cant afford to fix it if it dies...great timing! Re: Non pug car problem - Kimmie - 14-05-2012 Tom might be able to help you, bumming the VAGs and all..... Re: Non pug car problem - Moonstone2.0 - 14-05-2012 Kimmie Wrote:Tom might be able to help you, bumming the VAGs and all..... :| Kimmie, that has be the worst response I have ever had to a question on a forum... Re: Non pug car problem - Kimmie - 14-05-2012 I have zero technical knowledge, and was pointing you in the direction of someone who may have. Don't see how that's bad? Re: Non pug car problem - 4WayDiablo - 14-05-2012 I'll await someone with better knowledge but my money would be on an electrical fault what with all that's going on. Maybe a broken earth or something And at Kim's comment! Re: Non pug car problem - Toms306 - 14-05-2012 I'll be honest, I know more about 306s than petrol VAGs!! Does seem odd though, only time I had something similar was on a corsa when I went to charge the battery.....and accidently put 45amps through the entire electrical system! Everything came on, wipers washers, lights etc. There is something in the alternator to stop it overcharging the system though (cant think whats its called, mind blank) so I can't see it being that. Phil could be right with an earth fault or a live short somewhere but it'd be a bugger to trace! Not much help I know :/ |
