The rule I've always heard is 10psi for every thousand RPM when up to operating temperature (i.e. oil above 85*C ish)..
It'll usually be more than that obviously, but that's the minimum it should be.
From what I've always seen it'll only ever sit up against the regulator when it's cold... Once warm it'll rarely go near it.
