oil pressure - nick000 - 15-11-2013 Fitted oil pressure gauge via sandwich plate this afternoon and a bit concerned by readings - is the following normal? 40 psi on idle 60 psi on steady driving 100 psi on full chat Cheers Nick RE: oil pressure - HDIkyle - 15-11-2013 Sounds right according to my readings RE: oil pressure - nick000 - 15-11-2013 (15-11-2013, 09:51 PM)HDIkyle Wrote: Sounds right according to my readings Really! Thought that was quite a big difference 40 - 100. Glad to hear it's about right though - thanks for that fella RE: oil pressure - Dave - 16-11-2013 Depends on your oil and your oil temp too. If you rag it for 10 minutes I'm pretty sure your pressure will drop RE: oil pressure - welshpug - 16-11-2013 I'd bet that its a cheapo gauge not a proper one, as it shouldn't read any more than 5 bar, as that's the pressure relief spring rating. RE: oil pressure - Dave - 16-11-2013 I've had mine read well over 100psi when cold. In theory it shouldn't see that, then it settles once warm and starts capping out at 80ish when giving the engine death. RE: oil pressure - nick000 - 16-11-2013 Yes cheapo gauge, I'm more interested in monitoring sudden changes than the an accurate value. Guess I will have a better of idea of whats "normal" after a week or two. Will then be in a position to spot potential issues with sudden changes in pressure. Thanks all RE: oil pressure - Ruan - 16-11-2013 The rule I've always heard is 10psi for every thousand RPM when up to operating temperature (i.e. oil above 85*C ish).. It'll usually be more than that obviously, but that's the minimum it should be. From what I've always seen it'll only ever sit up against the regulator when it's cold... Once warm it'll rarely go near it. RE: oil pressure - Frosty - 16-11-2013 When driving mine hard im sure its usually about 6 bar. Will pay more attention next time I drive it and report back RE: oil pressure - nick000 - 17-11-2013 (16-11-2013, 08:57 AM)Dave Wrote: I've had mine read well over 100psi when cold. Spot on! - went for a spin today and when warm:- 40-idle 60-steady 80-hard acceleration |
