Just fyi.. with no lambda connected it won't give you rev issues, it'll just overfuel like f*ck as the ECU defaults to a rich mixture to prevent detonation. Not sure what sensors are on a TU but with regards to XU's this can be caused mostly by lambda, TPS and coolant temp sensor.
My GTi was awesome when the TPS died, sounded like antilag with the Magnex fitted, a proper rapppappappappappaPOPpapapoPOPrapapapPOP POPrapraprapapap when doing like 30mph
