Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 04-10-2013

Got an Ax.

1.0 tu engine 8v

Symptoms.

Will rev absolutely fine when stood, and happily bounce off the limiter

When driving and obviously under load, will cough and sputter after about 3000rpm and then when revs drop back down it almost cuts out.

Any ideas

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Piggy - 04-10-2013

may be coil related.
wont show up if not under load.

or fuel...again, may rev happily without load...dont take much fuel to rev an engine to the limter when stationary

I've given carb a clean out, changed the fuel filter.

Only thing I can think is I've fitted a straight through exhaust and just cut all the wires going to the lambda in the old exhaust.

Could that cause it?

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Piggy - 04-10-2013

so you have no lambda sensor working???....that would do it if thats the case!

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 04-10-2013

I'm a noob with petrols, first I've had for a while.

There's no hole for lambda in new exhaust, if I just wire sensor back up and leave it tied somewhere will it still work?

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - cully - 04-10-2013

no it measures the exhust gas and adjust the mixture
it needs to be in the exhust not the glovebox

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 04-10-2013

Better stick it back in then!

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - darrenjlobb - 04-10-2013

Haha Sam epic fail!!!

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Daniel306 - 04-10-2013

Its got a carb and lambda? Sure its not single point injection?

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 04-10-2013

No it's injection.

At least my hydraulic handbrake is working well!

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Piggy - 04-10-2013

SPI.

needs the lambda.

cut the little bit out of old exhaust with the lambda nut in it and cut a gap in new exhaust and weld the nut in. Smile

Not a bad idea

My dads just suggested making the wires really long and clamp the sensor inside the back box. Would this work?

It's a straight through exhaust to a cherry bomb

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Daniel306 - 04-10-2013

It really needs to be in the down pipe

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Piggy - 04-10-2013

wont work in back box.
needs to be in collector or just after.

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - darrenjlobb - 05-10-2013

Put it where its meant to be sam, it will have a pretty drastic effect on the fueling!

Lol at the hydro e-brake Tongue

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 05-10-2013

Lambda back in place now (the correct place)

Still seems to be limiting itself to 4000rpm

Sat waiting for ecu to hopefully reset

Now and again it will be fine and rev to 7000
But then you let off throttle and it will be limited at 4000

Tried another coil pack, it's got brand new spark plugs, just had service, temp sensor just changed.

Starting to really f*ck me off now

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - John1.4 - 05-10-2013

unplug the battery and wait overnight, if that doesn't work then get yourself a tu5jp4 imo

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 05-10-2013

Yeah I've left it unplugged

That's the long term plan

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - John1.4 - 05-10-2013

you on the AXOC at all?

Don't post on it much been on about 6 years

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - John1.4 - 05-10-2013

lol i've not been on for a while, still lurk in and out now and then though

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - cwspellowe - 05-10-2013

7krpm? On a 1.0 TU?

Just fyi.. with no lambda connected it won't give you rev issues, it'll just overfuel like f*ck as the ECU defaults to a rich mixture to prevent detonation. Not sure what sensors are on a TU but with regards to XU's this can be caused mostly by lambda, TPS and coolant temp sensor.

My GTi was awesome when the TPS died, sounded like antilag with the Magnex fitted, a proper rapppappappappappaPOPpapapoPOPrapapapPOP POPrapraprapapap when doing like 30mph lmao

According to my mahoosive fake Autogauge tacho

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - John1.4 - 06-10-2013

regularly had 7k on all my 954cc ax's think they went up to 7250 (same as mk1 vtr rev limit iirc)

the tu9 engines are properly basic - water temp for ecu, lambda, crank and tps, then water temp warning light and an oil pressure warning light, 954cc ax's didn't even have a rev counter

Anyone know anything about petrols? - Sambarker - 06-10-2013

Been alright today after resetting ecu. However most of the exhaust fell off halfway through a stage and engine has developed a chronic wine.

Time to find a 1600 engine

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - HDIkyle - 06-10-2013

Hope you didn't lose your cherry!

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - THE_Liam - 07-10-2013

To be honest mate, TU engines are quite sensitive to back pressure. Did it do it with the original exhaust?

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - HDIkyle - 11-10-2013

Don't think he drove it much with standard exhaust

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - Rippthrough - 11-10-2013

Single point does quite a shitload of it's fine tuning from the lamda and the TPS, disconnecting it is a bit of a fail Big Grin

RE: Anyone know anything about petrols? - puglove - 14-10-2013

Facepalm lmao
