If you don't need all the boost to burn all the fuel you're supplying, then more boost than required places more strain on the turbo and intercooling system... Also the pumping losses of the engine having to compress even more air in the cylinders is kinda pointless... Turn it down to the sweet spot of no smoke, but not higher than it need be.
