1. Go through it with a fine tooth comb, and treat any emerging rust. Don't just leave it unless you can MIG weld.
2. Remove the carb, dismantle it, clean and rebuild it, re-fit it with new gaskets and air filter and then take it to a carb specialist for a tune-up, it'll make a huge difference!
3. Don't get disheartened if you have a few problems, it's an old car so it's inevitable, and old cars are easy to fix.
4. Change the brake fluid. You wouldn't believe how many old cars have gone 10+ years without a fluid change.

Most importantly, enjoy it Smile

thanks for that man, really helpful!

that was pretty much my intention, there are a few patches of surface rust around, nothing too major, but i havent had it up to have a good poke around underneath as yet, im waiting for a bit warmer, and drier weather first haha

i had the carb off and new gaskets fitted, cleaned it all up, didnt dismantle it tho, ill see how it runs after that, and then may take it apart and rebuild it if its not great, and have a fiddle to get it running as best it can.

yeah true, im deffo expecting more than a few issues, but its off the road so ive plenty time to have to sort it all, the 306 is still my daily.

ah yes, that will deffo be getting done, and the brakes in general willl be made sure that theyre all good. they are really firm, but preety ineffective, but i think thats a standard thing with these, so ill fiddle around and make sure its all good.

oh i surely do enjoy it! even tho im not driving it, everytime i step outside and see it it makes me smile, and im always wanting to go out and fix things on it, even tho i risk frost bite!
