Posting airguns can carry an unlimited fine, and possible imprisonment. You must also remember that if it is a compressed c02 rifle, you also have a pressurised container. Double no-no. Same obviously applies for live ammunition.
Lead pellets are fine to post.
For a rifle to be declared safe (for transit, carrying in public places (in a locked box) etc etc) then the action (bolt, martini, rolling block etc, whatever it is) including trigger, firing pin and loading mechanism must be removed and stored SEPARATELY to the stock and barrel. Then, and only then, is the rifle declared safe for transit. Things to bear in mind before whipping out a rifle at ace next time you're there
