Right then yesterday got the gti shocks on with d tub springs new top mounts 
Feels smoother already although still have the creaking/knockin somethimes so it can only be the arb bushes.
Also anyone thinking of changing their lower engine mount while the bracket is still on the car.... DONT :p proper awkward and resulted in me smashing my hands a few times.
