In reality you will make more power with a welded gate, but its a horrendously inefficient way of producing more power, completely the wrong way to go about turbocharger tuning, but its free, and it works 
its just in the XUD applications the engines/turbos are normally strong enough to withstand the abuse/heat caused by this so most people just drash on..
