With an LSD you can get an extremely competitive amount of grip out of them if you set them up right.

On the other hand, if you shim the diff up or fit a welded and spend some money on basic things e.g. coil overs, welded diff, solid mounts etc then they're one of the most finely balanced out the box drift cars you can find.

Saying that, I can still drive very hard without going into full on drifts and give a lot of cars a run for their money (unless they're 4WD, then you don't really stand much chance).

One thing I will say is, if your not prepared to get your hands dirty, don't get one.

Fixing them can be inexpensive providing you can do all the work yourself, if you are using it primarily for drifting, things will break. My cars testament to this. Tongue

Bit overdue for an update, have since fitted the 4.1 welded R33 diff along with 5x1 shafts and have been enjoying that.

Yesterday 4 of 5 of the bolts made a bid for freedom so some roadside drive shaft refitment was in order.

Alternator belts not been playing ball, ended up snapped the adjuster bolt and had to get a new one!

Otherwise not a lots really been happening with it other then tyre changes and drifting.

Have also had my spare set of 18's sand blasted now in the process of spraying those up as a spare set of drift wheels.

She's had a love tap, now she's going proper drift spec.

Bumpers, skirts, big wheels, hopefully some over fenders, bonnet, respray, Bla Bla Bla.

Gotta stage 1A chip on the way to and am constantly hunting for lock mods (custom hubs / arms).

Body kit fitted with a hammer, nice.


Oh and nobody cares about 140mph, a GTi6 can do that with a long enough run up and you've got a turbo and a load of mods.

So.... Those diff bolts are working there way loose, gonna have to sort out some genuine ones I think...

Also fitted a 3" ASBO exhaust, alloy refurb is coming along nicely..

Ok so basically the exhaust got all cut and shut because it didn't fit nicely, but now fits like a glove!

Rolled the arches and found my loom had been getting scrubbed a bit, looks like I saved it just in time!

I then went drifting until 3AM and blown the bottom end, it had developed a leak from behind the crank and rapidly lost all it's oil, it's now knocking very badly... I've sourced another engine so just need to crack on over the next few evenings after work and get the old engine out, rip the ABS out whilst I'm there and do some bits and bobs. I'll probably go RB25DET route one day but for now this was the cheap/quick fix option.

Haha, yeah, that escalated very quickly! The only thing that would of prevent this was checking the oil a lot more regularly!

Anyway, it's happened, no point crying / being upset over it! It comes with the territory of owning a car like this.

Yeah man, gonna rip this out, put new one in, rebuild this one as a spare and drive on. Smile

Bits I've done/bought for this whilst replacing engine include:

- £130 Exedy clutch kit including bearing
- £90 Apex/HardRace engine mounts
- £40 Apex/HardRace gearbox mount
- £40 Stainless 3" elbow

- £30 Conceptua MLS exhaust manifold gasket
- £18 Mintex rear pads
- £13 K&N oil filter
- £10 Exhaust manifold nuts zinc

Spent the 3rd evening in a row (last night) getting the engine in.

All went well, took a while to realise some of the gearbox studs had been left in the new block from the previous owner and didn't realise they were hitting the ones in the gearbox which prevented it going in. Oppsie!

Besides that no major issues.

Filled it with oil and it started after a bit of confusion with the fuel lines.

Sounded a bit knocky from the head but after a few minutes of idling it went away so guess it was just oil working it's way up to the head/tappets.

Oil line on the stick is well past full so last few jobs are too:

1) Drop some oil out as currently over filled - DONE
2) Fit new gearbox mount - DONE
3) Fit new rear drivers side caliper - DONE
4) Bleed brakes / clutch - DONE
5) Fit bumper - DONE
6) Fit new genuine nissan driveshaft nuts/bolts



1) Engine going back in.

1) Drop some oil out as currently over filled - DONE
2) Fit new gearbox mount - DONE
3) Fit new rear drivers side caliper - DONE
4) Bleed brakes / clutch - DONE

Still need to do:
1) Fit new genuine nissan driveshaft nuts/bolts
2) Seal up turbo elbow, downpipe & exhaust with Fire Gum
3) Source/fit a rear caliper slider bolt for passenger side
4) Rebleed clutch, only 1" of travel

Cheers dude! I really hope so! Also got some plans to spray the queen with some Montana Graffiti paint in the future (or a proper spray job, still a bit undecided).

Unfortunately I spent my whole evening last night taking the inlet off because it has a coolant leak underneath...

I got to the point of being able to access the pipe at 11:30PM so I'm going straight back to it after work today and it should hopefully be running again by the end of the night.

Then I should probably fit the lambda and firegum the downpipe/exhaust joins!

These brackets can f++k off. I spent at least an hour trying to awkwardly remove them which dragged it all out!

They're staying off / going I the bin! Who needs inlet manifolds to be braced anyway!

Fitted a H-Dev Stage 1A (270-290 bhp) chip, big improvement over standard ECU!

Rethreaded my caliper slider bolt from M8x1 to M8x1.25 and fitted a new bolt as the old one was knackered.

Changed my rear pads to some new mintex ones, the rear pads seem to have a habit of burning down to metal quite quickly, maybe the hydro need's to be used less.... Tongue
