I actually like these....think he's lying about the mpg though, no way a 2l turbo petrols gonna get 40mpg!? :?
They are quite high insurance which is what put me off as well though. Apart from that, they're nice inside, well specced and from what I've read seem to be fairly reliable. Are a bit dull from outside, especially in that silver, but its not meant as a show car.

Looks like a lot of car for the money for sure!

You would be surprised what modern turbo cars get MPG wise and I'd think 40 isn't far off the mark

It's 12 years old? Not exactly modern lol. I'd expect 30mpg average tbh which is what most people seem to get from vag 1.8turbos, same bhp and roughly same weight.

I do agree you get a lot of spec for money though, and saabs seem to have really dropped in price lately, even the deisels that I've been looking at. Build quality is great too.....none of the rattles or creaks you get with Peugeot 'character' lol.

My old 2.3 turbo saab did 37mpg when driving carefully so I would expect this to do the same if not more.
They are a fantastic car. Very very under rated and built so that a bomb could be dropped on it and it would just scratch the paint.
Only problem these suffer from is the sumps get clogged with oil. (poor pump design) and need cleaning out every now and then. Easy job just time consuming and messy but well worth doing because oil starvation because of this is the biggest killer of these cars.

its the shape of the rear windows and the lights. and i think if you have a estate it should be GRAND and comfy with loads of switches that do everything for ya. the 306 estate dont really do that, well not for me anyway.

not to mention the safty. i live for the 306 but lets be truthfull, aint as well built as a volvo or saab are they.

My friends dad had the diesel and he used to cut and bond bricks and deliver them in his - think he got it to about 400k in the end before it died a death but they are an absolute tank lovely to drive and I think they were one of the first cars to have seatbelt warning but I think if you drive it too far without the seatbelt- like more than 100 yds or go over 10mph it stops the car.
loads of bells and whistles on them too but think you may be stuck with a factory stereo Unless you can find an adaptor plate. the top of the range petrol one goes like stink as well

the more i think about it the more i want a 306 estate. if i can get a china ph3 hdi then i can swop all my bits over and still get cheaper tax and cheaper insurance and mpg. will have to get at least stage 1 maybe 2. its a win win situation. just need to get used to the shape but i think i can live with that.Idea
