I actually like these....think he's lying about the mpg though, no way a 2l turbo petrols gonna get 40mpg!? :?
They are quite high insurance which is what put me off as well though. Apart from that, they're nice inside, well specced and from what I've read seem to be fairly reliable. Are a bit dull from outside, especially in that silver, but its not meant as a show car.

RE: might be tempted by this. - spike2002 - 30-06-2012

Personaly no i think they look horrid.

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

ya get alot of car for your money though and i am 37 year old so insurance shouldnt be a problem.

RE: might be tempted by this. - 4WayDiablo - 30-06-2012

Looks like a lot of car for the money for sure!

You would be surprised what modern turbo cars get MPG wise and I'd think 40 isn't far off the mark

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

just got insurance quote. £460 fc.

RE: might be tempted by this. - spike2002 - 30-06-2012

I agree it is alot of car for the money Smile a mate of mine had one but it wasnt the estate quite quick being 2.0 turbo.

RE: might be tempted by this. - Toms306 - 30-06-2012

It's 12 years old? Not exactly modern lol. I'd expect 30mpg average tbh which is what most people seem to get from vag 1.8turbos, same bhp and roughly same weight.

I do agree you get a lot of spec for money though, and saabs seem to have really dropped in price lately, even the deisels that I've been looking at. Build quality is great too.....none of the rattles or creaks you get with Peugeot 'character' lol.

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

its either on of these or a v70 2.4 volvo.

RE: might be tempted by this. - Matt - 30-06-2012

That looks pretty awesome Smile very spacious, bet it's comfy

RE: might be tempted by this. - Niall - 30-06-2012

My old 2.3 turbo saab did 37mpg when driving carefully so I would expect this to do the same if not more.
They are a fantastic car. Very very under rated and built so that a bomb could be dropped on it and it would just scratch the paint.
Only problem these suffer from is the sumps get clogged with oil. (poor pump design) and need cleaning out every now and then. Easy job just time consuming and messy but well worth doing because oil starvation because of this is the biggest killer of these cars.

RE: might be tempted by this. - Jenkosowls - 30-06-2012

iv been liking the looks of saabs recently but think its one of those cars where the novelty soon goes away same with like volvos and mercs.

Although atm i have a thing for estates particually bmws and some mercs! but as mentioned allot of car there for the money!

RE: might be tempted by this. - ginge191 - 30-06-2012

More money and less spec than the saab lol.......why would he want to do that!?

im going to get slated for this but here goes......

i dont like the 306 estate..Puke

RE: might be tempted by this. - ginge191 - 30-06-2012

Get out, leave the forum, go hang your head in shame!!!!!!!

to be fair, neither do i TMI , they just seem too... long?

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

its the shape of the rear windows and the lights. and i think if you have a estate it should be GRAND and comfy with loads of switches that do everything for ya. the 306 estate dont really do that, well not for me anyway.

not to mention the safty. i live for the 306 but lets be truthfull, aint as well built as a volvo or saab are they.

might be tempted by this. - kentiiboii - 30-06-2012

To be 100% truthful Kingy.

I don't even think my grandad would buy that. Yes looks comfy and a nice drive. But looks boring as.

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

kent. gtfo.

RE: might be tempted by this. - Sambarker - 30-06-2012

if were to buy an estate car it would be one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-CITROEN-XM-TURBO-D-GREY-/140786856918?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20c78cf3d6#ht_540wt_1270

absolute tank! Air ride, front mount as standard, just needs some banded 16" steels and a bosch

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

ive seen this before.... thats it, starwars.

thats a spaceship. looks like a tank aswell.

might be tempted by this. - kentiiboii - 30-06-2012

Get the citeron. Looks a beast!

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 30-06-2012

i would have it at the drop of a hat but i carnt see my wife or girls doing the school run in this. would be loads of lols though.

might be tempted by this. - ash240970 - 30-06-2012

My friends dad had the diesel and he used to cut and bond bricks and deliver them in his - think he got it to about 400k in the end before it died a death but they are an absolute tank lovely to drive and I think they were one of the first cars to have seatbelt warning but I think if you drive it too far without the seatbelt- like more than 100 yds or go over 10mph it stops the car.
loads of bells and whistles on them too but think you may be stuck with a factory stereo Unless you can find an adaptor plate. the top of the range petrol one goes like stink as well

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 01-07-2012

im going down to see this today and see what deal he could do me on my 306. i think i just need a change for a bit as ive been pineing for a different car for ages now. then would save up for a hdi for another project.

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 01-07-2012

just been for a look at this and im well dissopointed. i aint sellin my car for that. think i will stick to my vovlo's.

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 01-07-2012

the more i think about it the more i want a 306 estate. if i can get a china ph3 hdi then i can swop all my bits over and still get cheaper tax and cheaper insurance and mpg. will have to get at least stage 1 maybe 2. its a win win situation. just need to get used to the shape but i think i can live with that.Idea

might be tempted by this. - ash240970 - 01-07-2012

The thing about the estate is it looks so much better lowered

RE: might be tempted by this. - kingy - 01-07-2012

and on 17's. im thinking challengers....

might be tempted by this. - kentiiboii - 02-07-2012

Get a hdi estate. Don't give your car up for a grandad car not just yet. You need something fun not smooth Smile
