Thought I would start a project thread to show you guys what I have done so far and get some feedback (good as well as bad hopefully!) and maybe get some ideas and tips from people about where to go next
First up, a picture of the day I got him:
Its not the clearest of pictures but you get that its a standard (nearly) 306 dturbo. The only "mods" are the rear parcel shelf speakers, Turbro Diesel stickers and a half-stickerbombed center console.
Since then I have:
- lowered roughly 60mm
- painted front badge black
- pedo bear sticker on windscreen
- renault espace front splitter
- boost gauge
- spongebob headlining
- replaced the gear gaitor for a new genuine leather one
- changed the gear knob for one that came out of a 306 I was scrapping, which I carbon wrapped to tidy up. Not 100% happy with it so its temporary.
- clear side indicators
- phase 3 headlights
- de-wipered rear
- strapped in garfield
- painted the strip along the bottom of the boot
- moved front plate down (trying to decide where to fit it as I want to smooth bumpers)
I think thats it for now:
Sorry if its a pretty same-old same-old look!
Future plans are:
- paint door strips
- fit black plastic pillar trims to match boost gauge pod
- change gear knob
- remove sticker bomb off center console or carbon fibre wrap it
- paint wheels black
- fit lego dust caps I have made
- fit smoothed and painted rear boot button/badge and remove the rear turbro diesel sticker for a smoother look
- smooth bumpers
- stealth shelf in rear
- change all speakers for better ones
- fit sideskirts I took off a 306 I was scrapping
The car is used daily as a motorway whip. I like different/funny mods like the headlining. One thing I love about the headlining is you cant see it from outside the car so its more of a "surprise" when you get in.
I've got a bit of a knock up front, it was originally quite a bad knock so I changed the ARB bushes and drop links which cured it but there is now a quieter one which I think is a wishbone bush. So was just going to buy the pair of new wishbones with bushes and fit them as they are only about £60 the pair
I dont mind the ride height, used to having lowered cars now so I know how to avoid scraping normally. One thing I have found since lowering is that the suspension properly bangs over dips since lowering it, so not sure if the shocks are reaching their limit on the front or what. Anyone else found this?
Also the suspension is quite bouncy, so I was tempted to get some cheap coilovers which are hopefully stiffer and might cure the banging if it is the shocks that are the issue?
Ohh also I want to split the front fog lights and paint them gloss black inside, then fit LED lights and use them as DRLs as they have gone scabby inside
- put the plate back where it belongs or get a stick on one on the bonnet if your that worried about moving it otherwise all its doing is blocking airflow through your gtille.
Yea I dont think the plate sits "right" but it may look better with the bumpers smoothed... And I dont want to go to the hassle of smoothing then putting the plate back there haha. I may try an offset square one....?
And I would like some cyclones but I have only recently had new tyres on these bad boys (and I have a set of 5!) so may as well use them until they are caked now
EDIT: I will be taking the big sticker off the back anyway once my colour coded button arrives, but I think the side ones are subtle enough to leave haha
I dont think it particularly blocks airflow as the car doesnt get any hotter, plus there is still plenty of breathing space around it
Im taking the big sticker off the back as said in the first post but for now going to keep the side one as it is pretty subtle. You would be surprised how many people read it wrong (or right I guess you could say!)
It looks alright that need to remove the sticker and put the numberplate back cos it will restrict airflow, liking the roof lining the car has potential

Loved your old hdi dum dum
Bye Bye D-Turbo
Phase 1 GTi-6 now has a new owner
Rolling in the: Phase 3 HDI Wagon
I ordered a pair of new wishbones with bushes the other day in the hope they would finally sort out the knocking on the front end, but decided today it must be top mounts (driving normally is fine, but occasionaly you go over a bump and it bangs, also parking and 3 point turns you get knocking). So I have ordered up a pair of top mount bearings. I may as well wait until its all here and do it all in one go.
I'm hoping that will sort the front out, as it will have new ARB bushes, new drop links, new wishbones and new top mount bearings - I can't see what else it could be?! lol.
Anyway, if it cures it maybe I won't be worried about driving a little faster haha, as at the moment i'm like a granny just because i'm worried something is about to fall off!
FYI, front plate is back in its standard place, i'm now umming and arring about getting french pressed plates? Too obvious and overdone? or cool?
Thoughts?

More than likely to be drop links, sounds similar to what I'm getting and I know mine are f*cked.
Already changed the droplinks tho, I did used to have a really loud bang which I thought had to be drop links or ARB bushes hence changing them, now this is a different knock, mainly when parking lol
So I changed my wishbines today, a little bit annoyed as the guy sent me a pair with 18mm ball joints ssaying they were right but mine were 16mm, so I just used my old ball joints.
And went to change my top mount bearings, realising the reason I was getting all the knocking and banging was because when I put my springs on I put the bearings in downside up! D'oh!!! I fit the new bearings anyway as I had them and I had taken it all apart. So now it drives like a dream again! Its like a new car woop!
Also got my debadged/colour coded rear boot badge today:
As promised the TurbRo diesel sticker is gone!
The badge is a slightly different colour to the boot, but I think my boot has been sprayed at some point. Ah well! Close enough!
When I took it for a road test, I was giving it some stick and started getting a whistling noise that got louder and louder until it went bang! Looked back to see my wheel arch liner obliterated across the road lol. Thats both my front ones gone now, just the 2 on the back hanging in there haha!
Also, if anyone likes the dust caps I was thinking about making up sets, available in any lego colour, say, £3.50 a set posted?
Had to re-stick my headlining ready for FCS tomorrow as it had sagged in places
Its got sh*te loads of glue on it now so hopefully will stay this time.
I also fit a new centre console that I had carbon fibre'd, instead of the stickerbomb!
Luck for you guys no pic of that yet
I will be getting my 205 wheels tomorrow from a fellow member which I'm quite excited about! They are white at the moment so may need to be painted as I can't see the white/gold combo working...
I'm thinking either gloss black or gunmetal grey/anthracite whatever its called? Thoughts?
Big thanks to Kingy for the wheels. They really do pop!
I thought before getting them white would look hash on a gold car, and that I would have to be spraying them dark, but now they are on there I like what I see!
Next up is my new cigarette lighter, mine is well and truely wrecked and in pieces...
