I seem ti be spending all my bloody time in this section at the mo.
So the other day my dt started knocking over bumps and over the past day its got worse and worse to point where im getting frustrated with it .
So now wen i wiggle the steering left to right it knocks with out fail. And when stationary if you lock it from left to right it clunks just before full lock i can feel it in the top mounts and one of the PAS pipes twitches as it clunks.
But it has got more frequent and loader over the last 20-30 miles.
Is it the Rack thats f*cked ? Just seems odd as its came on so quick as if it was a volt thats worked loose or somthing.
Cheers guys

I also need an answer for this as I'm experiencing similar problems
Does your steering feel a lot heavier than normal too? Could be me being paranoid

I would personally say that its either drop links or TRE's, its pretty unlikely to be the rack TBH

How do you know it wasn't, they are more than capable of knocking like hell while appearing totally fine!
TRE = Track Rod End, otherwise known as the bit that connects the steering rack to the hub.................

Unlikely but could be a loose subframe aswell... you need to jack it up and just give the wheels a good yank to see if you can feel any play

most likely drop links, track rod end or even lower balljoints, also get a crowbar in and check your wishbone bushes, P bush more specifically xxx

I know it isnt the drop link because i wedged a bar between the arb and wish bone and gave it a good push down. I then tightened them with the air ratchet and since then its proceeded to get worse so defo not drop links.
Track rod ends were replaced about 4 months ago and done up as tight as pos with the air ratchet again. But defo worth givin it a check over tonight.

Cheers will give the wish bones a check over. Think they are the orig ones so cover nearly 80k maywell be the issue

Depends what you replaced the TRE's with, 4 months is more than long enough to ruin a cheap set...........
If you wishbones haven't been changed for 80k are you still on the same ball joint?? if you are then chances are it could be those, or if the bolt isn't tight then the hubs could be oval instead of round where they fit meaning the ball joint can move in the hub slightly........

Top mounts and bearings. Sounds like the bearings are shot and there binding.

If the bearings are f*cked, a jolt can cause them to munch against each other and cause the knock.
I said it first anyway so I want my prize when i'm right

I wasn't agueing with you, pipe down I was just curious how a binding bearing could cause a knock over bumps, worn bearings with loads of slack in them yes, binding ones no, they cause a twang noise going from lock to lock as the top of the spring can't turn

I don't know if it also feels like really bumpy like you are driving over rough ground at low speeds? (Even on flat ground)

Didn't read that bit, just the bit where it knocks when moving the steering.
I've had the knocking from worn ball joints but normaly only when the suspenson becomes unloaded, I.e coming off kurbs etc.
