HELP NEEDED: Very little braking effort on the front
#1
Ok guys so my DT has suddenly decided the front brakes they want to do very little work, they are still working slightly as they are still cleaning up the discs. But when you slam on the anchors the back end tucks down and the rear end locks up, Im thinking it maybe the ABS pump but i dont want to go ripping it all down and buying parts to find out it isnt the ABS pump.

Oh and iv swapped the calipers for xsi one with no joy if anything its worse

Any help will be much appreciated

The dt has the load valve on the beam doesn't it? Sounds like its not working to me.

Have you bled the abs pump? I've heard that if the abs pump needs bleeding it needs to be done using pp or similar. Worth double checking that one though...

Wiggle it with a set of mole grips and penetrating fluid.

if the load valve is what i think it is i had it apart a few months ago when i lowered the beam, what part should i be "penetrating" Tongue

Not that I'm certain that it is this, but the abs pump I bled using pp or similar interface software. The computer activates the valves in the abs unit in accordance with which brake your bleeding.

It's not even a pump, more of a collection of valves in the brake system.
So I'm told anyway.

By unit do you mean abs unit?

If so, and if my memory serves me correctly, you will definitely need to blew the abs unit using the above technique.

Or just do away with and lol

Don't have to run the pump to bleed it. Just makes life easier. Can just bleed them in the traditional way.

It could also be the MC having an air in it. Bleed them the same way the you would the caliper.

Could you have a slight leak somewhere or fudged mc diaphragm ? It sounds weird as my DT with air in the front breaks did not feel as you described, it felt like just slack front breaks Smile

you going to japfest at castle Combe tomorrow, I am Smile

Yeah would affect all brakes if it was the MC. I think carry on with what you were gonna do, to eliminate that, then of the problem still persists then start with other routes...

Load sensor was solid! lmao, freeed it up and have alot more effort on the front now but............ and theres always a but! the pedal is still a little spungy.

But im guessing that i fitted the 266 calipers with the sensor stuck its effected the bleeding process a bit so im going to get the halfrouds bleed kit tomorrow and give it another good bleed. fingers crossed the brakes are amazing after that Big Grin

Thanks for all the advice guys

Woo, I was right for once! Big Grin

Nice one on sorting it mate, as you say a bleed should solve the spongy pedal. Smile

When I worked in the garage we had a car with a similar issue (1 side didn't work) we ended up changing the mc and it solved it - hence I mentioned it

You missed some quality drifting and a good drifting accident lol, the slight left hander in to quarry sideways, in to quarry sideways...out of quarry in to the barrier lol

Went to japfest in the end but i was on the other side of track when he crashed we did see thw aftermath though lol.

I havr bleed it through again with the new kit its better but not 100% think the m/c is on its way out . But still the 266 calipers are still better than std DT ones even with the spungyness
