Finally found myself a 3 door locally to me for sale, so I went and bought it last night. Really happy





Nile Blue ph2 D Turbo, 12 months MOT, full service just done, brand new tyres, tracking, cambelt recently done, ARB droplinks, new discs & pads, etc. £430 I got her for! Pretty pleased with that!



Externally & internally needs a good clean, then to get her down low.

Issues & todo list
- Fix cigarette lighter to charge my phone 
- Fix interior light not working on door open
- FIx heater controls lighting
- Replace wipers & re-adjust stop positions (way too high)
- Lower! 
- Maybe mild tune

Also, I found this quite odd while driving home. What's this?



I did some Googling and can't find much about it. My instant thoughts was it might be cruise control, but I can't get it to work no matter what I do. I've also read that 306's don't come with cruise control, so maybe its not? Perhaps radio control with the standard radio, or maybe not? Anyone have any ideas? 

Anyway, all in all I'm pleased! A good clean inside & out next on the list!

But seriously, the little one is for the radio, yeah, you can get an adapter for it for some aftermarket radios but most people don't bother.

I'm not even sure how cruise would work with a mechanical pump? Would've been so easy to fit to the HDi's though, such a shame they never did over here.

Did some bits to the car last night. Removed the door switch to see if I could spot anything obvious, and the plug & lead dropped off the back! Moved some carpet out the way, as well as the bonnet release mech, and I can't find a way into that area to retrieve the wire! Anyone know how to do this?! Please tell me its not removal of dashboard to access? lol



Bought myself another door switch from eBay, looks a lot better made. Just hope I can retrieve the plug, then I can test it & hopefully that's one issue fixed!

To help prevent rust, I managed to nab a nearside rear wheel arch liner from a Ph3 HDI in the local scrapyard today. I've read that Ph1 & Ph2's sometimes suffer from nearside rear arch rust, so I thought I'd get onto getting some protection in that area asap. On my car, I did find some rust, but it's not too bad. I'll look into getting that repaired soon. For now, an arch liner will do

10 minutes later, it was on the car. Basically a direct fit with no modifications to fit a Ph2 I found.


I had to remove this piece of trim, but this doesn't matter too much as the new arch liner fits where this came out of.


I paid £6 for the arch liner. Prices online seem to range anywhere from £24 to £48, so I'm pretty pleased with that!

I'd recommend a gti/phase 3 front bumper and a full colour code. Other than that some better wheels (cyclones) and yes Crack the lowering stick out

Actually, my aim is to eventually go Phase 1, at least front conversion only but perhaps all round overtime Lowering is top of my todo list though, to be honest!

Couple of small, but important little jobs done today

Fixed the cigarette lighter to work with my phone charger. For whatever reason, the Peugeot one didn't want to work with my charger, but it did have power going to it. I spliced in another lighter socket, and everything is fixed now



I quickly found though, the charger was on all the time! Even with the car locked! A quick Google found a thread which told me if I shift fuse #16 down 1 slot, the cig lighter will then come only on ignition. And if by magic it did - a great little fix. Fuse #16 20-amp, highlighted here



And then, I've finally fixed the door interior light switch. I attempted with the "bent coat hanger" method to retrieve the wire & plug, and it wasn't really that difficult actually. About 10 mins later, it was done. New switch in place, works perfect



Next week should be good. Few new parts & items on their way, then I'm doing a trip to Nottingham & back on Friday. The first long-ish drive in the car, about 380-mile round trip. I'm interested to see how I get on with it & how well it does on fuel!

Slightly O.T now but cruise control with a mechanical pump has been done since the early 80s.
Just look at old pajeros /shoguns.

Making good progress with this, you can get to the bonnet cable up behind the dash, pretty tight though. Taking the light dials/vent out helps iirc, can't remember which.

So, when does the tuning happen? If you'd like a helping hand you're welcome to come up to Eastleigh some time.

Thanks, yeah only some small progress at the moment, but plans afoot for lowering & tuning! 

Met up with Jonny last night who ran through a ton of stuff with me. I think I'll be going with an upgrade to my rear beam - GTI-6, along with either lowering springs & shocks, or coilovers. I'm hoping for about a 60mm drop. After that, I'll certainly be interested in getting some tuning tweaks done!

But big thanks to Jonny for sorting me out with knowledge, a phase 1 front bumper, and a cuppa tea!

New floor mats arrived, gave the car a bit of a clean out... Before (ugh, disgusting)


After, cleaned & new mats. Much better




Heater control bulbs also arrived, finally be able to see the controls at night rather than guessing


Finally, my Brodit 306-specific phone holder arrived. I use Brodit in all my cars, such good mounts. They are designed specifically to work with the car you buy for, really well made.


And mounted, along with an iPhone 6 specific holder held with strong double sided tape


A much nicer plate to be inside the car now. Both door interior light switches are replaced & working now too, so that's quite a few little niggles out of the way & done. Now onto the more serious mods!? ..

Absolutely, sounds good. As plans stand at the moment, hoping to go with GTi-6 rear beam (so caliper/disc upgrade too), along with probably coilovers all round. Need to source rear calipers mostly!

Another update Probably an excessive amount of photos for such a small mod, but hell, I like taking photos  

Bought a dewiper bung from eBay. A proper one with a screw on the back, so no one can push the bung/grommet in!


Removed arm a few days ago to make sure I could live with no rear wiper. Doesn't bother me, so after removing the 13mm nut holding the arm on, you're left with this


Molegrips to carefully unwind the top cap. Its threaded, but plastic. Mine didn't break, came off easily


Remove x2 10mm bolts holding on the motor itself, along with the hose for wash. I bunged with a random bolt & cable tie


Disconnect both plugs, I then tapped them to prevent any possible shorts


Cleaned everything up, black sealant under the bung, tightened up, then re-applied Rain-X everywhere (I live by this stuff!)


Job done






Looks a lot cleaner I think! But serious requirement for lowering now, haha!

Well, yesterday was "the big first drive" for the car. 450 mile round trip in 1 day, done! She didn't miss a beat, was bombing along at 70-80 the entire time, spot on. What's more, after I filled up with fuel again, I calculated about 43mpg, which I'm pretty impressed with!

This was somewhere down the M1 at about 3.30am


Onto today, got the rust sorted on the passenger rear arch. It was a little worse than I originally thought, but nothing that my good mate Stu couldn't fix

Passenger rear wheel off and the Ph3 arch liner removed


With all the interior panels removed, this was the extent of it


Ground back to decent metal


He then cut around it, plated, and did some welds


Done. Not the prettiest ever, but it does the job. With interior panels back in, no one will ever see this anyway


Sealed the welds up on both sides


Then underseal on both sides too, and most interior panels back in


Pretty happy with that. At least its sealed & done now, no more water inside the car & the Ph3 arch liner should help prevent anything happening like this again

To be fair, the first half of the tank I did my mpg calculation off was on short trips. I think if I had the whole tank on a long run I'd be higher!

Quite a busy weekend! 

Drove 2 hours to grab some parts off of a Ph1 D Turbo, 4 hour round trip, car was spot on. Really enjoy driving it long distance! 


When I got back, thought I'd attempt swapping steering column. Mine had a bit of play near the steering wheel and I've read that there is a nylon bush inside the column itself, non-serviceable, so its an entire column change required. Its actually really easy to swap columns

Removed the drivers seat (so its easier to lay down), remove all plastic covers, etc. Then remove these x2 13mm nuts near steering wheel


Then further down, resting my head on the pedals, x2 13mm nuts, followed by 13mm pinch bolt


For ease, I removed this panel (with the plug on), and this flexi hose for a little more space


Then it was looking like this


Unplugged the stalks, and it came straight out. Fitted the new one in reverse order, everything is perfect! Tightened her up, no more play, feels so so much better to drive!

...

Then, onto yesterday, did most of the Phase 1 conversion. This is the little lot I grabbed




Front bumper removal was a right pain, didn't really know how or what I was doing in fairness, but its done now. x2 on each side 10mm nuts facing forward is all that holds it. Removal of wheels & arch liners is required.

Slam panel is held with x2 nuts top corners, and x2 13mm's in a similar place to front bumper nuts, then it comes off completely


Didn't really take too many photos, but fitted Ph1 slam panel back on, front bumper, etc. I didn't bother (or have time) to fit new front wings, but I'll do that at some point.

Onto soldering for headlights, this is the Ph2 headlight plug with wires attached testing live's for dip/main/sidelights


10 mins later, plug chopped off & all figured out & all soldered onto Ph1 loom. Then wrapped in split conduit trunking


Annnd, done!


Also swapped the rear bumper too, but didn't have time to do rear lights


Pretty happy! Just need to get it sprayed now. Whilst I'm there, to sort the car park dings down the side, especially on passenger side of the car.

A few things that I noticed while doing this Ph1 swap. Everywhere I read said its a simple bolt-off/bolt-on job, but its not quite

1, Bonnet catch is different, I didn't have the Ph1 bonnet catch, but I've modified Ph2 to suit
2, Bonnet catch cable mounting bracket. It needs to be secured to stop it sliding, not sure what the factory method is?
3, Header tank bracket doesn't fit. Now I know Ph1's don't actually have separate header tanks, so cable ties for now
4, Under bonnet fabric/sound proofing material doesn't seem to fit or line up. Can probably modify to suit though
5, Bonnet gas struts don't fit. Ph1 uses manual lever, so will eventually modify/weld to fit gas struts
6, Drivers side headlight fouls on an air-con component (not sure what). Had to very slightly bend out the way

A lot of messing around on a few of these things, its a lot of work to do in 1 day to be honest! But I'm much happier now its Ph1 front! Next on the list will be rear lights (which I already have), perhaps next weekend

Nile blue - keep it original, don't need full car spray, might be cheaper. Paint expensive though

Black - what I'd love, but full car spray. Paint cheap, but need more of it. Not sure I could live with unmatched door shuts, etc.

Miami blue - less difference on door shuts, paint cheaper than Nile

Once you go black you never go back.

It's not really a ph1 colour though imo, Miami would suit better. Just my opinion though!
