Car For The Missus
#1
Yes another what car thread!

The missus needs a new car this year for carrying the kids about. Currently she/we have an Astra 1.8 Design 2005 we have had 3 years and it's time for a change. I've been looking at Focus' Astras ect but I've run out of ideas.

The criteria is as follows
  • Hatchback
  • Petrol 1.4-1.6
  • High Spec
  • 5 Door

Budget ~£4k plus the Astra I rekon £1-£1.5k for that in part x.

I'll add something around 7 years old to the list.

Seems within budget and can get higher spec models for around the same money. probably get a 5 yr old one for the higher end of your budget and they are a nice / decent place to be Smile

Surely a 4K Astra will put you in one of these:

They're f*cking horrible cars.

Nope you'll get a J for the £4k plus £1500 p/ex

1.4t 140bhp isn't bad and would probably be had for £5.5k.

Boggo spec would be do-able for £4500.

For 4k you could get a nice 05-06 plate 3 series e90 or 5 series e60 with either a 1.8, 2.0TD or whatever floats your boat.

Probably more likely to hold it's value then an Astra or Focus.

I'd be looking at an older model with lower spec to come in budget.

I'll be honest, that is horrible!

I was looking at these earlier today. What's the 1.4 Turbo engine like? I found a 61 plate for £6k with 40k on the clock at a local dealer. Really like the look of the Astra J.

Even though a BMW would be an upgrade, pitching this missus would be difficult. I'd just get so we are spending 4k on a car that's the same age?

It's better than the NAD! Quite nippy & is reliable.

Where are you located? I've got an SRI NAV spec diesel you're welcome to have a drive of.

Leeds! I've found a 60 plate 1.4turbo at a main dealer local to me. It's a little more than I wanted to spend but I think we'll go take a look tomorrow.

The 1.6 petrols seem to be around the same price too.

Really unimpressive the 1.4T engine in the Vauxhall. Goes ok but horrible to drive.
Had it in a meriva hire car that was otherwise very very good, with loads of space and toys
