So I got a bit bored with the "tap head" exhaust and this 328i bit came up for grabs.
It's actually a lot quieter than the 318tds exhaust, a lot... but not necessarily a bad thing. Smoke now goes all over my own boot lid instead of onto the road. Forgot to get a pic of the Y pipe that was made to make it fit haha. Also need to get my hands on the black trim piece off a 328 as the one on it didn't fit around the exhaust, so I killed it with a hacksaw...

The fan belt has been squeaking away since the day I bought this car, but its started getting a bit louder recently so thought it was time to take a look
(You cant hear it inside the car so has never bothered me before but needs putting right really) Got both belts off and found that both the idlers, the tensioner and the waterpump are really really ruined, they only place they are fit for now is a Volkswagen factory. So replacing them all, not an expense I planned on really but got the whole set new from a local place for about £100 (the water pump pushed the price up a bit) I had a look at a BMW manual to try and work out if the large hex key on the tensioner is for loosening it off, but apparently not. The official BMW technique is a "robust screwdriver" Nice. And yes, genuine FAG bearings.

I love that they've drawn the technical diagram with a pipe obscuring what you're meant to be doing with the screwdriver, just like the real thing!

Haha I know right. That pipe is annoying in real life though. It's a solid plastic coolant pipe that is in the way of everything. Already had to refit it once because I made the mistake of disturbing it when the td04 went on so it leaked everywhere.

Also disappointed :/

Buying something older and lighter and petrol also not french or german. Might stick a thread on here when I pick it up at the end of the month, even though its not french or diesel haha

So you should be, go and think about what you've done.
Then come back and post your new one, cos we're nosy.

bit of a bump here, but was yours an utter pig to get fired up after replacing that seal in the pump?
I had a leak from mine in the same place and I can;t get it to fire up for more than a second or so before it dies, spent hours trying to get all the air out, going to try shifting the top of the pump on those 4 bolts, was sure it had gone back on in the same place.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

I did have a few problems but it was very easy to fire up (the e36 have an electric lift pump so no priming needed!) The problem I had was that you can slide the top half of the pump forwards and back when the 4 small bolts are loose, they have an oval hole to allow it also. It seems to adjust the position of the throttle between the two halves, too far one way and it will not even run, too far the other and it overfuelled/idled badly all the time. The position seems to be VERY sensitive, took me ages to get it in the right place :/ Might also be worth looking at the part the throttle slots into at the bottom, that it has actually met up with the top half and not knocked out the way! Good luck

yeah I watched a few youtube videos and figured that out thanks
tried moving it forwards and it didn't even chug, shifted it backwards and it fured straight up to a smooth idle, I found a video detailing the job on a jetta tdi using the same vp37, using vagcom he could alter the injection amount when running till it matched the specs given. going to see if I can find a diagnostic thing which will do the same

What vehicle are you doing it on?
I found that even though I got it a little wrong, after driving it for a bit the ECU seemed to compensate and sort itself out fairly quickly
