I've read that to fit the standard 306 gbox into a 205 you either swap the diff to the 205 unit or split the shaft and install the 205 bit to the whole assembly and it will fit.. does this setup work with the DW8 gearbox as well? if not, any ideas?
I dont know if there are different gearboxes on these engines.. today i'll try to get a couple of pics since it's out of the car..

not likely to need to do that on the DW8 box as it wont have the bigger planet gears that the gti6 and tubo boxes have.

Easy to tell - just put the short 205 shaft in and see if it slides home fully.
If it has the wrong diff, the shaft will bottom out and won't sit fully home.
If it is needed, I would (and indeed do) personally swap the diff instead of messing around bodging bits of different shafts together, but that's just me.
