Crank gear setting point

I'm fitting the new cam belt, the crank gear turns on the key way, when fitting the belt should the gear be turned fully left or fully right on the key way? The cam gear is fixed and does not have the adjustable sprocket.

Haynes doesn't mention anything about the crank sprocket position, and autodata sheet isn't clear to me.

What engine is this on? Can't say I've ever heard of an adjustable crank sprocket?!

if you have the crank pinned at the fly wheel, and the cam pulley pinned, it wont make any difference where its at in the keyway

It's a DW10TD on 2002 306 estate.

there is on the later engines
the earlier engines have a vernier cam pulley to correct the timing

I had this the other day on a dw10 at work. Pin the crank set the belt. Its only a little movement it doesnt matter. So long as the cranks pinned. I thought it was wierd its as though the woodruff key isn't big enough

According to autodata you use a setting tool in the gap on the left hand side of the keyway. This allows for some movement of the pulley when tightening the belt. The sprocket is then locked in place when the aux pulley is bolted on.
