cheese, I spent about 10mins trying to get that out, and the bastard was just spinning, looks like we ever had fitted that thing, had pushed the locking clip away from the battery, so you couldn't get the bolt out as it had locked onto the bottom of the torx bolt. getting access is a no from under there, lucky enough I have my gta battery box to go on.

Well ive just come to a deal with the gf that I can buy it if I have a place to store it for free. So I text my little brother asking if he would run it as he has no car and he said yes. Storage solved. Also I have a spare 998 a series from a mini I built a while back.

done some more today, been mainly stripping the back off the gta, but that has turned into a nightmere! one of the subframe bolts wont play!
so that's going to have to be drilled out or something!
but i managed to get the tank dropped Smile
so i will extract that from the car tomorrow along with the fuel line!
also i made a start on putting the engine bay back together!
as the front end too! ( still need to sort the bumper) Smile

rad in and plummed back in

my accelerator cable swopped and installed.

part one of the fuel system installed!
also my mum worked her magic on the coolant bottle!
engine bay as it is now!
i was going to take more photos, but it started to piss down heavy so i backed off,
then went on to the gta, as mentioned,
as soon as the fuel line is out of that car, i can fit it into this, and i can practically put the front end to bed, but i will have to take sometime in tidying up.
but the name of the game is to get the car back together and running!

cheers fella!

anyway, I really pushed on,
I got the tank out and fuel line, the gta wouldn't give it up with out a fight!
so with a few cuts on my hands etc,

fuel tank

the fuel lines,
[Image: 2014-06-10144752_zps46ac628a.jpg]

then I swopped over my boot lock but I need to replace the catch as I think its not working properly.
but there is a piece of trim going back on!
then after that, I put the gear linkage in place

then put the fuel line on to the car,
you can just say see one of the lines,

then I decided to put the rest of the engine back back in.

then I put the front end back on properly,
[Image: 2014-06-10210335_zpsd077c23e.jpg]
front bumper is knackered like!

then I fitted the gta mudflaps on the front.
As the car stands now
[Image: 2014-06-10212839_zpsa70c4cb8.jpg]

then my dad came home from work and we did this,
[Image: 2014-06-10144831_zps9fe3113d.jpg]
and got the exhaust out too,
also you have seen that I have removed the side strips off the gta!

we are getting there! just need to fit the washer bottle, and tighten up the rear part for the subframe, and connect the gearlinkage up. then its a case of starting on the backend of the car!

today was a bit hit and miss sadly, We did plan on turning the metro around today, but with the car having big tyres on, and been decked, we had no chance, so I swopped over to the gta rims, that have a smaller tyre wall but wider, and it was the same story,
We had the arch clearance, but not the radius part, where with the skinnys with the larger walls had arch clearance problems,
So I jacked the car up ready to drop down the rear subframe, I managed to get off a few bits ie the exhaust and the rear can hangers,
Then I moved onto sorting out a fault with the boot lock, which just needed a tweak.
I cleaned down the bolts for the subframe so, that we can wind them off.
laugh is we go two off, but the other two have odd sizes, one I think is well odd,
they are going to have to be drilled out sadly,
So that came to a dead stop, as we need drill bits for that!
I decided to make a start on tiding up the car, and binning tighten, and refitting stuff in the car and engine bay,
mainly bits of trim, inside the car. so that all was put back in the cockpit,
Then I went under the bonnet, and had bit of a tidy there, I robbed some bits of clips and pipe brackets from the egg beater, which I will show you tomorrow, as I am going to start some wiring tiding,
got an idea of fitting an engine bay light, as I have a glove box system that I think I can use, if not I will see if we can re mod that again in to the box.
so stick with me lads, Smile
if I get the chance, I may hook the fuel lines to the tank, shove the exhaust on, and see it if fires!

well we had a bit of a nightmare x2, we had two odd ball bolts keeping the rear subframe on the car, so we have had to drill and chisel them off, which took a lot of time today, we most have been on them for a good few hrs, but anyway we managed to get the old subframe off, and the remains disconnected.
then the fuel tank was dropped out,
[Image: 2014-06-13191038_zpsb3a0de6c.jpg]

while that was out, we fitted the new handbrake cable as it makes sense to change that, while the full works is off the car.
mind this handbrake was shot to hell!
then we swopped over a few pipes from the Carb tank to mine,
as I had a made up a few pipes, as the previous owner, of the gta, had removed them and not bothered supplying them with the car.
Now with us having the carb, I can swop my pipes I made up for proper metro ones, and even put in a proper over flow pipe too!
Then after that, we wrestled the tank into place, and bolted that up and I connected the tank electrics, just need to connect the fuel lines and that's the fuel system sorted practically!
next up came my braided hose kit! with the subframe off, we can fit the rear part of the kit!
Then its a case of sorting out the rear studs in the mounts and fitting the subframe back and sorting the rear brakes out.
we can then put the car back on 4 wheels!
maybe looking another week or so, as I am back to work as of Saturday, so at least the main things are installed now, just a case of time with the spanner!
I need to swop the metro hubs off the old blue subframe, as mine are f*cked, and then its bye bye to the red shellSad

right an update well more of a parts update.
when I was at work, my dad cracked on with the ****ed studs that were in the rear subframe mounts, we had visions of replacing those! That I think will be a bit of a **** on. as the bolts would be well on!
anyway, my dad managed to wind out the studs with a pair of mole grips and that was it done!
so the subframe can go back on the car!
also while I was at work, my dad managed to get the ends of the hold brake lines off the subframe, which is practically close of going on the car,
[Image: 2014-06-14212113_zps6be7e8aa.jpg]

also heres the new handbrake cable hanging down ready to go on the car!

the tank in place!
and the fuel neck in place too!

I managed to keep the old red ring off the car so that I can colour code it when I get the body work done, but then again I may leave it black, just have to see!

here is something very cute for you! with it been a carbed spec shell, I decided to put the choke cable head back in, for show!

now some of the upgrades to this car,
1st up an upgrade that sorts out the door handles,
some of the earlier metros had metal door handles where the later ones had plastic that were known for failing!
So with my replacement one been ****ed too off the gta,
one of the lads from metro owners club from Malta sorted me out with a pair of metal ones, not bad for £13 quid posted!
need a paint up but who cares!
The braided hose kit that I was in too minds of doing with the gta, but now I have decided to implement this upgrade while this car is in bits,
[Image: 2014-06-14212619_zps90768b1e.jpg]
Also another upgrade well a very rare OEM extra, that I wanted for the GTA, but for love of money would a pair come up! until a few days ago! So I snapped some light protectors, like I have on the 306.
Also got my poly bushes for the front end of the car, so that's the full works sorted now!
just need the hubs off the other subframe and swop them over.
Then the car is as good to go!
got my console to go in too, but I am looking into reworking that with new gauges and I will put my Hazard switch in there in stead of butchering the dash, also I may put the glove box light in, as that's still bugging me Smile
We are very close on getting this sleeper sorted! Wink

Also today was a special day too, as I started it today, and it fired over 1st turn of key!!!
sounded like a BTCC car but she ran! for about 1 min, with the car not having a system on!
So she is alive!!! a f*cking a live!!! I tell you!!!!!!!!!! Big GrinDDBig GrinDDBig GrinDDBig GrinDD
just need to sort the brakes out, anti role bar, fuel lines and exhaust!
then we are practically good to go for a tick over session!

yeah we are really moving on in at a pace! got a few jobs to do today, that's mainly a date with the spanners at the front, then I can move onto the brakes,
hopefully I can get the car on the road, as its all declared to the insurance about the engine swop anyway. plus this car has mot and tax so we are ok there for the min,
plus I can iron out a few faults before the mot, Plus I want to give the underneath a seal and paint too! As there are a few ugly areas!
Just need to get one more part off the red one now, and that is as good as gone,

well today after I finished work, I managed to do a few bits today.
That was tighten up the gear linkage, tighten up the front subframe, get the exhaust connected up on the car, and I fired up the car to see if all was ok, I need sort a few things out, but its running ok, I need to sort the fuel gauge wires as one of the ends has snapped off Rolleyes
also I need a new brown sensor, as I think this one is acting the goat, its making the ecu put the mpi fan system on, so its not reading it properly. plus the engine isn't idling ok.
But the big thing was, it moved under its own power for the very 1st time!!!! Big GrinD
red one looking very sorry now Sad in the back ground.

I set about fitting my replacement rear slave cylinders and rear shoes. bolting up the rear anti role bar, so its half way there, we connected up the handbrake, but I need to sort the ****ing main wire! ( interior out by the looks of it!)

we suspected that the driver side cylinder has seized for some reason and caused the other one to fail. so both are on anyway a long with the new shoes.

That's about it photos wise, as we had a **** on with the handbrake.
I need to fit the rear U brackets on the rear cans so that shuts down the rear end of things, and I can start sorting more out of the front end wise and give the interior a clean.

also got the log book for the car, and its had 5 owners, and its a very early H plater so it is really a very early mk3 metro this one is,
24 years old this year! :o

well today when i finished work, i managed to get the handbrake cable back in place, but i will need to connect it back at the rears, also i gave the engine a good ticker session to see if all is ok there, and bleed the thing.
Got to say i have a sensor problem i think, as the engine is running spot on then idling erratic, then when i start the thing, i am getting a puff of smoke, so i think its over fueling. i think its the ecu sensor acting up, as that sort of thing causes these problems, as the ecu keeps kicking the fan on, which is the back up system, so i know there is a fault.
i have tested some wiring and i think i have a fault on one of the wires for the interior light, so that's going to have to be played with! As i was going to wire in my MGF rear view mirror.
hopefully on Friday and try and have a good day with it as i can move it again!

well today was a big day but more on that in a min!

while I was off work, and the weather has been mint, I decided to move the metro again, and sort out the rear end once and for all, so that I can put my bits back in place,.
I pulled the spare wheel out and other odds and sods, so that I can refit my U hangers for the hydrocans and rear subframe, so that has finally put that to bed now!
these were off the gta

Also my new brown sensor that the ecu sees and controls the mpi system.

fitted that in place,
[Image: 2014-06-20140543_zps66db86ce.jpg]

fired the car up and it made a massive difference, no smoke out the exhaust at all, after a few starts, as the ecu can see what is going on, the old one was rusted to hell!
so the ecu most have been barely seeing what the crack is!

next up was the final stage in the brakes, and the new upgrade, that the gta was going to get, now the new sleeper has got.
the old ones
[Image: 2014-06-20190722_zpsf75cff50.jpg]
new ones in place
[Image: 2014-06-20200058_zpsbe0de7e5.jpg]
now I have cabled tied them in place, close to where it the oem ones where bolted
[Image: 2014-06-20200122_zpsd825e7da.jpg]
so after that, it as a case of checking all was ok under each wheel, and we bled the brakes, need another bleed, but it stops!
Also the massive piece of news today, is!!!
IT HAD ITS 1ST RUN TODAY!!!!! Big GrinDDBig GrinDDBig GrinDDBig GrinDDBig GrinDD
mad thing is it drives better than my gta
so I am well lit up about today!! just a few things to sort out now, and that's it!

it was the highlight of the day! I even had a bit of fun with it on the test drive!
smoked a two cars!
just a few things now to sort out, and procta will have his 8 balls back!
laugh is this shell feels more stable too, so yeah be the 50% stiffer, but then again this one is a none sunroof,
My mate came over yesterday, as I haven't seen him since jan this year, and he was well chuffed to see the new car, and he said that's a hell of a buy! He did help me with the red one and drove it too,
He said well andy you were looking at reshelling the car anyway, so the time is right to do it.
He loved the engine bay! he never saw that, as it looked pretty dull the last time!
hard to believe how things change since last year!

did a bit more from the snag list of jobs, today.
1st of all, getting my boot lid lamp wired back in place, all I had to do was run the power lead to the boot lid latch and I was way, photos of work.

all powered up
[Image: 2014-06-21174044_zps9372b569.jpg]

next up was wiring in my mgf interior mirror lights,
but I had a fault well I thought it was a fault, with the interior lamp, I had connected the 3 wires the wrong way, its not wired as you would think, with it having two powers and one earth, I thought id check the Haynes manual, but that's a load of shite, told me f*ck all!
Luckly though i had the the original photos from back in the day, off the gta. So after a quick flick through the photo bucket, i found my wiring photo, sadly i didn't take a photo when i removed the lamp wiring as the loom i made dropped to bits, when i removed it Rolleyes so it was sort of guess, but today i have sorted it! Smile
so after a bit of a test with the wiring, I repaired the mgf wiring harness and installed it.

both systems

so that's now in place, and working much, much better!

then another major fault, i have at the min, is the sender gauge wiring for the fuel tank,
well the f*cking ends dropped to bits Rolleyes
so i have had to recycle some old loom and repair it.

the 10 year old plus end that broke off
[Image: 2014-06-21194209_zpsaa5a68b5.jpg]

i will have to get back under there and clean the contacts and check a fuse, as it still not working, Probably due been left out from the car. or its stuck.

i made a start in securing the fuel line in place too, still got the front end to do,
i couldn't access that, as my dad was working on the landy at the time, so i was limited with space!
another fault, is the bastard coolant pipes in the heater matrix, mite need tightening again or something, as some of the water has come through the cab Rolleyes
i did tighten the two again, with a better socket, so we will have to wait and see.
Also i have plan for reworked console too, for the gauges, as the last time it was cable tied in, I am going to mount in place with the original metro bracket, for the tape holder, also the hazard switch is going there too, not on the dash.
i have the old glove box with the lamp, that i will be using as a templet, for the on that's in the car, so i will have that bit lux in too.
still got more to jobs to do, try and sort the front anti role bar, and start to remove tools and other bits and pieces. so that i can give the car a good clean inside!

done a bit more today, while I had the chance,
I secured the fuel line and fitted the front anti role bar to the car. so only the brakes to sort, give the handbrake an adjust, and stop the exhaust from blowing.
that's it a fully working car! sadly the front hubs off the donor car, cannot be saved, asy the nuts are practically welded on! so we have gave up saving those.
looks like the red one will go this week, I will take the vin off ( as I want to keep that for a keep sake) and reclaim the tax back.
laugh is when I came to start it again for a tick and bleed session, the bastard battery has died! so I will have to sort that fucker out!
then its a case of fitting bits and pieces in the car. Smile
