Fitted my bonnet pins today. I think I would recommend is buy proper ones! Chinese copy ones are crap! Snapped one of mine already and had been on the car less than 5mins. Will get some pics tomorrow. Had to order a new set of aero catch locking pins now to replace these crappy things!
New exhaust cam arrived today as well so that can go in before inlet goes on and omex. Still a lot of work to be done yet but hoping to make it to the ring in the summer

New exhaust cam arrived the other day so that will be getting fitted when the car goes into have cam timing setup and compression tested along with the omex loom to be modified by Jim. Got the catches bolted in, closed my bonnet, went to close the pins and 1 of them snapped. Well thats what you get for buying cheap! Now had to go and buy some proper ones now.
Also bought the 385cc injectors, i know before people say standard ones are good for 220bhp proven but yeah at full capacity so just wanted to go for bigger ones for less hassle really. Now with the omex i have found a garage local to me who specialise in omex. Check them, sell them and map them ect... Spoke on the phone yesterday and i have been told to get everything fitted to the car with a base map from omex already on what they should send me for free i have been told. Drop the car off with them and they will do me a live map for £200-£300 depending on work needed. They also told me they can install launch control, flat shift ect....

Not a lot been happening lately except from I had a compression test done while I was away. Came back that 1 cylinder is only making 40psi where as the other 3 were making 200psi. Jim stuck a camera in the bore to find damage to the top of piston 3. Bought a new MLS head gasket and head bolts and have a few spare pistons lying around what I can use as replacements. Hopefully going in next weekend to get engine all sorted.

Woh, missed this!
What a lovely thread of shiney excitment! Shame about the compression on 1...be great to see the results you get with that new plenum/inlet and omex Sure it be all worth it then Wishes for more power...

Contact Guy at Omex and he will send you a base map
Looking good mate. Don't need any piston/head work with that can then? Also, a lot say the original injectors are good for 220 but that's assuming they are in a near new condition. Get ones which are old and you will probably see no more than 190-200ish.

As for a base map my ecu is mapped for a 106 gti running cams, jenveys and bigger injectors. Been told the ecu should run well enough on my engine to get me going to mappers for a little tweek to get it running 100% (29-03-2014, 09:11 AM)puglove Wrote: This pretty dam cool. nice to see somthing i havnt seen before on the forums. I would sell my 2nd inlet yes. Drop me a PM it would only be the inlet with trumpets no plenum tho as I only have 1

Not yet, hopefully getting piston changed next weekend and head gasket ect... next month I will look into getting fuel rail and tb adapter made up when I get paid. As for the states its just a waiting game at the minute to see whats happning. Dont think anything will be decided to summer time yet.

No not yet, still want to get it all running ect... having bother with my front end tho at the minute, think my hubs are ovaled where the ball joints sit so need to source some new hubs and ball joints, think my gha's need looked at too as they seem very soft and knock

Thats the boot filled up with all my bits to take down to jims tomorrow for me to have a mess on with while I have my engine sorted. Think I will give it a week or two and then get it on the rollers before all the shiny bits go on and mapped to see what sort of power I am starting with. Hopefully will be around the 195bhp mark at the minute as thats what the print out said what came with the engine. But I do have a couple little extra goodies on the engine what should hopefully bump that up a little. Roll on pay day so I can get some bits ordered!

So an update on whats been happening yesterday. Coming home from work the car cut out at a junction and wouldnt start so had the ditch the car and go get a battery as the battery had died for some reason! Car started back up on my spare battery. Went home and picked up my old block just in case it was needed and headed down to Jims 2 hours later than I wanted to.
Started around 11am, engine was out by 12 and made a start stripping everything off the engine, inlet, AUX setup, exhaust mani, box, fly & clutch. Then came time to pull the head off. Took the head off to find oil in one of the cylinders and slight movement on one of the pistons too. Stripped the bottom end to see what the actual problem was to find 2 big ends had score marks and one of the pistons was broke. There was my problem to the cylinder down on compression. Also found the bit of cam that had been broken off before I bought the engine sitting in the sump! Good job I picked up my spare bottom end. Jim cleaned the surface of of the block and pistons and the surface of the head ready to go back together. New gasket and head bolts went on along with a new water pump then fitted the new exhaust cam. Cams are setup on standard timing just to get the car back up and running. Will set cam timing up later on when I come to fit inlet ect... So end of the day yesterday the engine is back in wired up ect... just shafts, exhaust and front end to go back on really. May give the VLR a trail fit if I can be bothered today

Wow that looks like a very unhappy engine lol. Glad to see its almost back together. Bet you can't wait for it to be driving nicely again!

Good progress chris
So is this your 2nd or 3rd engine now, think I've im on my 3rd in 3 months and 120 miles Astor 6 Fast road/track project
Just heading down there now to finish it off. New engine is reading 170-175psi across all 4 cylinders now. Jim says it may pick up once its been ran but all giving off good compression so its a good start. Got new plug going in today as well. Will update once I get it running and home this afternoon

No the 1st engine was a strong engine before the belt went, jim done some checks with oil in the cylinders before we stuck the head
05-04-2014, 11:29 PM
Got down Jims this morning and got shafts and exhaust on. Also fitted new ball joints and bolts then realised on of the bolts on my solid axleI mount had snapped so had to drop the axle to get that out and replaced It with a bolt. Could do with finding a lambda.
Done that while Jim torqued down the head, next we lifted and mounted the oil cooler. Cooler is much better now as before it was hanging too low and pipes ran under the cross member. That was the car pretty much ready to go, just the cooling system but thought I would try on the VLR and see what clearance was like for the alternator and radiator ect... looks awesome and fits perfect B) apart from the bonnet doesnt shut :lmao had to chop the bottom skin off the bonnet and flatten the bolt holes on the inlet. Fits alot better now but still need to find another 10mm so I can close the bonnet. Cars all up and running and seems to be running well. Not really gave it any yet, just wanted to make sure I got home in one piece.

Looks awesome, save for that spoiler! Don't feel bad saying that now that you're getting rid anyway. How practical is it proving being that low though? The front end can't be far off what those Irish boys do to their cars! I know it's good for track days but how compliant is it on a bumpy B-road now?
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

Spoiler was on the car when I bought it, never got round to removing it. Got a phase 3 spoiler sitting in the boot whats been there since January haha. As for the hight the only 2 issues I have is the speed bump out of the carpark at work what sits on the brow of a little hill! Fuckin stupid place for a speed bump.as its at a round about too! And my middle box catches on some bumps, other than that I have not had any issues at all. Middle box will be coming out tho once I get round to having straight through middle sectiin made so thats 1 issue solved

I was thinking the bttc manifold looked like it maybe a bit tight, how where they originally mounted?or where the bonnets single skin?
Looking really good mate.Been for decent drive in mine today finally got the exhaust poping Astor 6 Fast road/track project

BTCC engines sat a lot lower than standard but the VAN was ran on the 406 not the 306 so had more room too. The 406 ran the same engine as the gti6 tho. Hopefully have everything on and running by next month

Not sure whats wrong now but I was getting a bit of a misfire but sorted itself out then today I gave it some off a slip road onto the dual carriageway and all of a sudden lost a cylinder. Pulled over and turned the car off for a few seconds and restarted it and was still running on 3. Not long been home now got my tools out and pulled the coilpack cover off to get at the plugs. Started the car and now its fine again! Tried unplugging each coil separately and all coilpacks seem to be working fine, same with injectors. Would a diagnostics bring up the fault?
