Looking good mate.
Have fun with the quick shift, I'm at the end of my tether with mine. I've drawn up some new collars for machining, if they don't sort it, its going in the bin lol. Member of the 99% warning or you're nothing club 2000 Moonstone 1.8 Meridian - Sold 2000 China 3dr XS - Dead 1998 Diablo 3dr XSI

So as most of you have me on Facebook you'll see that I now have this car on the road! Its taken a while but has been rewarding saving another gti6.
As you can expect I have a few teething problems to sort, but they're all easy stuff which I just haven't done yet. Exhaust is vibrating on something at 3k revs, so I need to check where its catching (think it maybe bumper). Sometimes between 3-4k revs it feels like it lacks a bit of power but I still need to change fuel filter. Also Ive noticed I have a knock on front drivers side, think its drop link, it looked fairly new plus the shop didnt have one so I left it. But im suprised mot didnt pick this up. Also sometimes it doesn't want to get into first gear, but I also need to drop gear oil out of it and put fresh in. Seems a lot but it's little things. The car drives and feels great, by far the best 306 ive driven! Ive not thrashed it or anything yet as I want the engine to get used to driving again. Tomorrow ill get pictures up of work been done and a list so far of whats been changed.

Needs a bloody good polish pal, although doesn't look bad in the pictures tbh

It seriously needs a clean mate, I still haven't cleaned mould of steering wheel lol! Hopefully I get a day of next week that's decent!

Sweet, what's your plans with it for tomorrow? Drop gear oil and find the noises, i've got the special square things for the gearbox ill dig it out if needed
09-05-2014, 11:49 PM
Erm, find the knock possibly sort it if my mother will lend me money for a drop link.
Adjust exhaust, change filter and if I have time change gear oil. What square things?

10-05-2014, 12:29 AM
I'm not sure, I didnt use a square thing when I did the hdi I dont think.

It has a square, or you can just use a spanner

Using a spanner is the normal way of undoing a nut yeah lol
10-05-2014, 08:14 AM
Ahh sound thought it was square but didn't know a spanner would go on
10-05-2014, 08:25 AM
Going to give motor point a ring see if they have one in, or can get one for when I finish work.

Fair play to you for getting it back on the road. Most people now see these as disposable cars. Fail its MOT on something simple and they would rather scrap it and buy a new one which is a real shame because although they will never achieve the following the 205 has done, i think they will come close being arguably the last decent Peugeot.

Agree with this. Last good car they made. Like people putting them back on road rather than scrapping. Why I didn't mind welding mine and the mrs ones.

A lot of them now will start failing MOTs majorly (unless of course they have been looked after by enthusiasts like us lol) on things like suspension and rot but the way i look at it, Even if you have to do a complete overhaul on the suspension, Your looking at £500 max. Then, you have a car that is good to go for another 5-10 years. In my eyes, thats more of an investment rather than scrapping it for £100, spending £1000 on a new car then next mot, that needs more work doing.

We bought other half's dturbo for 350 with limited mot and spent £200 quid on bits rad brakes suspension bits and welding bits. Still only £550 for a now immaculate example.

Niall I completely agree with you! This car has probably cost me same amount as buying a gti6 ready.
But its has mostly all new suspension, full service all peugeot parts plus cam belt and much more. But if I had bought one chances are itll need service and cam belt. Plus the satisfaction that ive saved it is nice! I love seeing this more than any of my other 306s!

Needs cyclones to go with the Oem overhaul imo
Get that old box oil out man, it's probably going to be black or the wrong type. Genuine oil transformed the gear change feel of my '6 The drain plug is 21mm iirc. Best thing I've found to refill it with was a lucozade sport bottle, the nozzle is the perfect size haha

You don't need a special tool, spanner will be fine for removing the plug.
You can change the gearbox oil without removing the wheel-arch etc. and the breather/level plug on the side pokes out into the wheel area on the side of the box. I'd never done it before and after reading the FAQ it only took a few minutes if you don't count the time I sat around drinking tea and letting it drain.
This post is an artistic work of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted above as fact.
