No lowering I'm afraid though, can't justify the cost of doing it or the cost on the insurance....it's already cost me £13 to downgrade from a 2006 Vectra to 2000 306! Plus it should be pretty comfy in Meridian spec...


Yes the Vectra will be sold before the end of the month hopefully. Need the weather to ease up so I can clean it up tbh!

Really? I was led to believe I wouldn't have a problem averaging 35mpg in one. I do a lot of boring constant 40ish B road so usually get more than book figures.

Will be interesting to see what I get from the 1.8 306 tbh...I used to average 35mpg, whilst sitting in a lot of town traffic for both college and work at the time....will be interesting to see the comparison lol.

It would probably be easier in a standard car, admittedly. Because of the additions to mine, it makes it a bit harder to resist being naughty, which isn't exactly good for fuel. I can't really remember what it was like when standard, as it wasn't like it for long. If you're very good then you could probably achieve it, but I can't

Doesn't shop up if your car has mods or not. But you really should declare, most people find it cgeaper

Theres not many locals left tbh! Most of the Norfolk lot now have other cars, Rowells in London, Jammas probably crashing, etc etc.

Don't know, not been pulled yet, and don't intend to be lol. I did have a car that wasn't fully declared and was constantly worried about cops etc so just isn't worth the hassle imo. Insurance is up in about a month though, so if it's cheap enough to go with a modified company and do a few mods on the cheap I might do... Would like a bit more noise tbh, after years of diesel drone and turbo whine!

I've only had 1 1.8 previously though lol, 3 1.4s and 3 HDis, so had to be a 1.8 really to balance out a bit better.

They won't be able to find out if you've declared modifications or not without them phoning your company. But I've heard of cases where they have done that. With how cheap it has now become for modified insurance, there's really no excuse for not declaring them.

always best to, as I have read a story that, one lad didn't declare his mods, and the old bill impounded the car. He was well lucky they didn't crush the car at the time, I think what saved the day was the car having a mot.

Yeah, plenty of people on here seem to rate them so will be trying them. Still got just over a month left of Admiral for now though...well theoretically anyway...was supposed to have both the 306 and Vec insured next week and they haven't even managed to get that right!

Basically have some major plans for the next few months and need the cash from the Vectra to fund them, hence getting a cheap 306 for the time being.

As for the Vectra, I think it's worth more whole than in parts, it's a high spec facelift model with a years MOT and full service history so hopefully should be worth a decent amount.

Not sure how true it is but a mate told me a couple of years ago that ANPR in police cars does show if the car's modded or not...though it doesn't go into detail about specific mods. So as long as you've declared something on a slightly modded car you'll probably get away with it, and they wont bother checking any further.

That said, a guy I know from a local VW forum was stopped and hadn't declared anything He had a highly modded Corsa with a 2.0 8v, slammed on coilovers, big wheels etc... His car was seized there and then. It was later crushed... So not worth the risk imo!!

Hmm I'm not sure on that one, think we'd have to ask someone in the know. But I can't really see that being true, I'd imagine it would just show as insured. Either way, as said, it's not worth it. Especially as it's now basically cheaper to drove a modified car on a specialist policy.
