Surely there's no right or wrong car? You modify them for yourself... Everyone has an opinion, unfortunately (usually)...
That's probably being asked because it'd be cheaper to run/insure.
Edit: There you go

sam, more like I modified the wrong car. knowing what I know now, with the 306s, I should have kept my dads 406 and done the HDi up.

I think alot of people forget that the gti6 exists. "diesel" is the first thing that comes to mind when most people think 306

I remember not long after I got my first 6 I pulled up in a petrol station and ended up chatting to one of the guys that worked there about it and he said "yeh but it's only a 1.4 ain't it...."
Most people don't know what a 6 is and are always surprised to find out how quick it is.... (Particularly with a supercharger kit haha)
And personally a diesel is for better fuel consumption and reliability more than it is for ultimate power.
For the last 3 years I've run my heavily modded 6 and a daily diesel. I always get the diesel remapped and make some aesthetic changes etc as well as sort the suspension but that's as far as it goes.
I'd never bother going to the effort of heavily modding the engine. The car isn't what I bought it for then.

It's pretty common to be honest on Facebook, I remember putting my Skoda up for sale on there, I was asking £1600 which was very reasonable considering it's condition, I put in the advert that I'd consider sensible offers, I was getting 5-6 messages a day, usually no longer than "700 2moz m8" or "ony wurt 500, ua dreemer if u fink u gt more, i com 4 it 2moz yeh?", Facebook is full of wankers.

People only seem interested in the HDi cos they can "map to stage 2 innit wiv fmic" and it's cheap to insure and run. So basically everyone is a tight bastard!
A moments silence please, for our brothers in the NAD-zone.

Don't think it's so much that as the fact that these are cheap old cars that appeal to young lads for the most part. If they can have the speed of a '6 with 60mpg rather than 35mpg, and dirt cheap insurance (because they usually don't declare mods) for the sake of £500 on a clutch, FMIC and map, they will. To be honest, I'd find it hard to justify a '6 knowing that my mate gets through less fuel in his 220bhp 328i than he did in his Rallye...

Nothing wrong with modded 1.4s! I had two back in the day...
As above though, 306s are cheap, old cars for tight, young people mostly. Hence them wanting diesels lol.
Daft thing is, insuring a stage 2 HDi (properly) costs more than insuring a standard '6 for a young person, the tax is the same pre Y reg and with the money it costs to add boost leaks (FMICs ) and a stronger clutch you could've spent that on several months of fuel for a standard 6...and you have to put up without the sound of a '6 (personal opinion obviously). This is why I just don't understand S2'ing HDi's tbh lol. Then again I don't understand uncomfortable, impractical lows either!

I suppose its weird that the world has gone full circle in the last few years as I used to regularly have people ask me if my black HDi was a GTi6. (anyone remember the "Spotted S/C GTi6 Hayes" thread on the GTi6 forum that turned out to be my HDi). That still makes me giggle.
