So after the shocking performance of my phone at castle combe this year I've been looking into getting some sort of gopro like camera...but not nearly as expensive since I'll be using it 1-3 times a year for track days/meets
Has anyone else got one of these action cams? I've been reading reviews/youtube clips and most of them seem pretty poor quality although this blog suggests this one is pretty good for the dollar. Thoughts? My budget is low but I would like a decent enough one so I dont have to turn up and depend on others to use their cameras

If it were me, as I am looking for a go pro, I'd just buy a second hand gro pro 2 or go pro hd.
Specs of the old ones are still pretty impressive.

Even the second hand ones are commanding a far bit of money for the amount of use I want from it

Might be worth a go for the money, least its got a screen on the back - like you say if you're hardly going to use it, it won't really matter so much.
Go pro is pretty good quality in daylight, but everything is overpriced for them (accessories and all the rest) - go pro phone app is pretty snazzy though

The go pro accessories are over priced but if you go on ebay, you can pick them up nice and cheap. Not always original but some of the copies are also very good. I would advise buying genuine mounts though if you plan on putting it on the outside of the car as the last thing you want is for it to fall off when your doing 70mph although I'm sure it would still work. The original mount could pull the bloody door off before it comes off the door lol.

True dem facts, however in my experience I had to wait on overly long time for bits n bobs to turn up form china, and with limited daylight days I found it frustrating waiting for them as summer slipped away.

Check out techmoan's 808 #11 camera review. For around £24 they're really good. I use to use one on my kart but I needed to get something water proof so I bought a Contour HD camera.
But you can't beat a Gopro for quality.

It all depends on how you mount it. The kart vibrates really badly but with the camera mounted on the rad and that secured a bit better it worked really well.

I've got one like this http://bit.ly/1kQClML for the money it's pretty good as long as its inside the car never tried it outside
Surprisingly good quality an sound from it though
Just make sure that you use it with a big ad card as if it runs out of space it clears it and starts again

I suppose if I change the mounting position it might fair better, last time it was stuck on the boot window
Have you got any footage of what that camera can do ? £15 sounds like a right bargain

£41 posted. Seems pretty good, just the lack of screen is off putting so would have to check the angles and stuff before hand so you dont end up recording the roof by accident

Yea the more youtube videos I see the more impressed I am for the money

I think come the new year when student finance comes about I'll order one, doesn't look like it comes with any mounts apart from a base for the screw in but a suction mount is like £5

Update: Mobius camera has arrived took less than 2 weeks to get here so impressed, just tried some basic recording in my bedroom using a 8gb class 4 card I found. Very wide angle when compared with phone. Hopefully my helmet/headrest strap will come tomorrow so can do some daytime driving recording in a setup that I would use for track
