What is this switches purpose does anyone no?
Most hdi's show up this fault wen codes are read obviously cant be important

It's so the ECU knows when you dip the clutch to change gear, it tries to the match the revs for a smoother gear change. Not too important tbh.

Yeah I think it also tries to avoid stalling by chucking a bit more fuel in if you come off the clutch a bit quick when pulling away.
You could unplug it and see if theres any noticeable difference but I doubt it.
