Looking awesome dude! Can't help but think the pug badge would get annoying in the back of your head though...
AMG nozzles are crap for our engines, completely wrong spec, apart from flow lol. 1.6frps is an odd one, because it uses the same signal range as the standard item it will run fine, but it'll work like a chronic tuning box and f*ck the engine quick time if it isn't mapped in straight away. Also, i'm beginning to think the money would be better spent on injector nozzles - all of the bosch pumps available to fit our engines and run without extreme modification are only rated to 1500bar. By taking them out of that range we're reducing the efficiency of the pump, ie we could be pumping more fuel at a lower pressure. Your standard pump will certainly struggle to keep up with the demands if you're already having cutting out issues, so leave it until after the r70 change at least.

It took a lot of persuading the old woman to do them so its a perfect job all the lions are on straight and in the middle. The lion on the steering wheel ties them into the interior imo.
Anyway thanks for that poodle. i think the motors due a timing belt in the next few thou miles.. ideal time to fit a new pump il update more next week once ive popped some injectors in.

Padge wheres this sedan?
Ive fit some 076 injectors and some new washers. The old injectors looked a state. it has cut but i was low on fuel and in 4th. Although the car is definately smokier out back now. Think the lift pump needs replacing

Get an uprated lift pump, people regularly seem to be having issues even with bigger HP pumps... Considering how often they fail, I'm not surprised in the slightest people are having issues. They're rediculously easy to uprate, also!

Ru.. walbro dont list one for the hdi but im maybe if i emailed them they would supply one.
ahh padge the sedans sweet. Needs banded steelies...

Don't necessarily need to go for a Walbro - You can just get them off other, higher powered Diesels for relatively little.
And you know then they're good for Diesel, not sure I'd trust a Walbro on Diesel...
20-09-2013, 12:45 PM
I havent yet managed to find many lift pumps that supply much higher pressure, iirc theres a couple of beemer ones that work at 5 bar, but theyre fairly few and far between. I thought walbro listed their pumps as suitable for petrol or diesel..?
20-09-2013, 01:27 PM
I wouldn't worry about pressure so much, long as there's enough fuel flow... Any normal Lift pump will do the job perfectly fine.
If I were you guise, I'd get a swirl pot, pump from tank to swirl pot, then another lift pump from swirl pot to engine - that way you have a continuous supply of fuel into the CR pump - you've got ~1l in the fuel pot and it's being continuously fed to the CR pump...
20-09-2013, 03:41 PM
It's finding the flow figures that's the problem lol. Some of the Cummins boys use walbro pumps to make 600bhp, so i'm guessing they'll be more than adequate for my needs. And sure, it'd be nice to get a "specialist" airdog pump with all it's gimmicks, but i just don't have £700 just kicking about for one.
With engine bay space being as tight as it is, i'm reluctant to put any gubbins in there that i don't have to. Besides, a trap-door partition in the fuel tank should do the same job without needing a swirl pot or second lp pump - ie saving more expense.

IMHO just get two x30d lifters off ebay or maybe off a Range Rover, there's a few on there for 99p atm and grab a swirl pot, they aren't much money, sack off the crappy stock fuel filter which would easily save you a massive quantity of space... Place an inline fuel filter under the rear of the car...
If you can, go to a breakers and find something with a spinon fuel filter, put that under the boot floor... I rekon a twin lift pump setup could be done for sub £50 - that'd solve IMHO any fuel issues that HDis are having currently - then you can put all your concentration into the HP side - the LP side is sorted, currently I don't think I've seen any HDi actually know they aren't having LP issues, I've never seen a HDi that runs more than 160hp that doesn't have cutting out issues under full load...
20-09-2013, 05:35 PM
Lifters? So wheres the swirl pot going under bonnet??
I was under the impression a new stock lift pump would resolve any issues as stage 2 request will be too much for a worn pump but otherwise I didnt think it was too critical an area to improve. food for thought tho.
20-09-2013, 05:44 PM
Lifters = Lift pumps :p Shove the swirl pot where the original fuel filter goes and use either an inline filter or big spinon job off a lorry/Land Rover/old Ford.
Thing is, we're seeing low rail pressure issues, yes the CR pump could be worn also, but even when you stick on a new pump, I've seen MANY stage 2 especially stage2+ cars that just repeatedly cut out under load, especially if you've just nailed it round a roundabout and you've not got much in the tank, as you go for WOT it'll just instantly cut... Not only is this a pain in the arse, but doing it repeatedly will result in the CR pump being damaged, it's essentially running it dry of fuel... Doing the swirl pot way will remove any bubbles in the system as you take the feed for the swirl pot off the bottom of the pot, thankfully bubbles float... Then being fed into the CR pump, directly from an uninterrupted supply of Diesel through <50cm of fuel hose... You can then EASILY implement a decent fuel cooler circuit when you have the time/money...

Ruan im going for an uprated lift pump if you could tell me the frame size of the pump id be much grateful...
in at the garage today. .. ive cracked the left p bush and the drivers anti roll bar has play... puglife!! Tomorrow im going for a straight pipe concealed inside the stock backbox... were going to drill holes into the pipe and put the sound deadening stuff back in the box around the pipe which should hopefully reduce noise when im on idle/light throttle. Anyone think that will work?
04-10-2013, 11:55 AM
If I were you - get the sender out of a DT and then you don't have to worry about frame size, it's got a massive pickup spout also, so you literally run some hose out the DT sender, straight into the lift pump... You can then mount the pump under the boot floor, no need to worry about physical size then...
I don't know the actual frame size, but I'm sure you could bodge pretty much any pump to fit if you try hard enough if you must place it in the original housing...
04-10-2013, 09:09 PM
Exactly as Ruan says tbh, make it fit lol.
Exhaust should work fine, that's similar to the way a mid-box is designed.

just had a read through this mate, cars lovely! Hopefully you get to the bottom of the issues, your car stands now where i'd want mine standing mod wise!
The sender.. you mean the lift cradle? And I think I need a pic or a diagram... or maybe just a dt cradle and it might all make sense. Think I may buy a 255lph performance pump... a dt lift cradle and try conjure something up. What do you mean buy mount under the boot floor?? In the tank?
The zorst is done... best of both worlds imo. Got a real deep tone and whistle when it comes on boost and it boosts higher now too. mcglyn - cheers pal its been a relatively slow project as I work long hours and have a kid
05-10-2013, 03:05 PM
That entire lot from a DT there - then you don't have to worry about pump size, you can just mount your lift pump underneath the boot floor or wherever, run some fuel hoses - job jobbed.
08-10-2013, 11:01 PM
Ahh.....So will this still work on the HDi for the fuel gauge reading?
Think i understand this now finally. So the pump will effectively be directly in line rather than been sat in that cradle. Also have to run some additional wiring for the pump too... Where abouts under the boot floor you suggesting tho... This is definately my issue as it hasnt cut for a few days whilst fuel was around half tank. Dropped to quarter and it was fine for a few pulls then threw a benny... £30 later and it was fine

Arron, that sounds like your problem is starvation, rather than a weak pump, I get the same issue with mine. Try doing a couple of laps of a roundabout at speed, she should cut out shortly after. This is why i've been talking about baffling in the fuel tank etc, if we can stop all the fuel f*cking off to the back/left of the tank every time we rag it, then problem solved.
11-10-2013, 04:38 PM
I see what you mean. Funny you say that as above 3500 sometimes it seemed to struggle but I put it down to weak pump etc etc. How would the baffles work? What are the pour in baffles ive seen? Not quite sure how they would prevent the fuel from moving that far away from the pump.
I fancy doing the dt cradle with walbro fuel pump upgrade now I know why its cutting Just checked the car other for the rr tomorrow. Cleaned the maf. Removed the hks. Took a photo whilst it was off to try demonstrate how ive had to reduce it onto the stock intake pipe
Ive not heard of pour in baffles. They work by dividing the tank up, ideally with a trapdoor system, just like sump baffles. The standard hdi sender unit works like a small baffled area, but just isn't big enough.

Ahh I see. Have to look at that.
Just rolled 154bhp 280 lbs/ft
