Right but my GTi6 on 60mm springs and 50 profiles was low, nearly doubling that would be undriveable!

Looking at the pictures, it looks about as low as mine was before Vaughan fiddled with it. That was around 70mm...

go look for my sigma DT project and tell me thats 120mm
its sat on ta's with the 1 ring on 1 thread. then look at kerrys xsi project hers have 2 or3 turns left. again Ta's they do not do 120mm with the helpers in fact!

It sat on the sump and Wouk grind the sump, had to use wooden chocks, two scissor jacks and a normal jack to try and get it in the air to wind them back up abit TEAM CONROD SHITTING RALLYE!

iv had them fitted to 4 of my cars they dont do 120. taking the helper out isnt part of factory spec and not legal.
thats like saying my coilies go 600mm if i cut the springs in half and drop the bodie through the hub.

They're equivalent to TA technix, with a different name.. I expect they often measure the lowering from the top heigh, to the lowest and the difference between them. Rather than working out the difference from standard height. Also, is anyone actually entering this?
Diablo Hdi Dturbo and 205 1.9 project - it lives!

There's nothing illegal about removing helpers, they are not a requirement. The problem comes when people remove them to go mega low and they unseat when jacked up or unloaded.

In other words, for an MOT and wind them nearish to the top, or the point that when jacked they don't unseat and you'll be fine

well yeah correct curt. but i dont see why you would remove the helpers for any other reason than to get mega low then legality issue comes into play
16-07-2013, 02:03 PM
obviously not james the voting thread hasnt been put up yet.
Matt the ponit was we are talking about what the manufacure spec says they will do without modification. you can nake 90% of coilovers do 120mm if you mod them nothing special about TAs being able to do it without helpers.
16-07-2013, 02:07 PM
What I was saying is that ta will do the 120mm, you said they can't.
Without modification they can do it (removing the helpers isn't a modification it's optional) and that was te point I was making. As I know they can reach those lows and you said that they couldnt TEAM CONROD SHITTING RALLYE!

By design, coilovers springs don't unseat even with droop travel. So yeah, there's a nice grey area for you. I certainly had no trouble with my last two MOT's...
16-07-2013, 02:59 PM
Erm, that's what I said isn't it Chris?
I know that it becomes an MOT issue if they unseat, but mine was fine with no helpers as they didn't do it. The lock ring was fouling on the tyre, so I removed the helper to allow it to be wound up by the length of the helper, giving me the clearance that I needed. |
