Hunter continued with a td04!
(25-04-2013, 06:28 PM)306Brad Wrote: How does it feel in comparison to the standard tubby?!

No faster yet, but it feels alot different, where the ko3 is was building upto about 3k then dead, this starts spooling around 2.5, but then it just keeps going and going instead of dying off.

Its currently got no exhaust and is in the same tune it was with the ko3 so i have been just driving sensibly. Have had chance to open it up yet and see what it can do!

I do have a video i will link it across as soon as youtube lets me Big Grin

Ok the youtube vid failed so im having to use photobucket :/

Thats the picture i took for facebook when i got the old one out, Also if anyones wants to or needs to change there turbo its actually really easy, if it was a standard swap it could of been done it 3hours but because this needed a bit of modifcation here and bend that there etc the time soon adds up!

KKK is on the left indeed, its closer to the camera so looks the same size, facepalm.

Left the wastegate on. Had to bend a power steering pipe down a bit but i havent done any bulkhead modification and im using the wastegate aswell and it doesnt catch anything Big Grin

Anyway i got the exhaust sorted today, took it off and on lots of times with lots of cutting bending and welding inbetween. And it didnt want to mate to the original system nicely so i kind of hammered/welded it on Smile

Was planning on running low boost but thats out the window now haha

So as of now flat out 5th gear foot flat is at around 28psi, what i have noticed is the ko3 had is advantage first and second gear im not going to say the td04 is quicker off the line because that would be horse shit, that little ko3 took a right raping through the first 3 gears but thats its party trick over. Whereas the td04 gives you a short kick in the ass in second then 3rd 4th and 5th it just tanks on like nothing can stop it! Going to have a play with the pump today because i got alot of smoke as im coming on boost but it should be fun Smile

f*ck no, the ko3 manifold is tiny and shit. I used what i think is a T2/k14 one (is it those 2 that share or other way round), i went over darrens to borrow a turbo to sort out the clocking and he just gave it to me aha hero!

Glad your enjoying it Stephen! I certainly am Smile And thats what it here for Smile

no they have different mani's . . .just really interested because i'm putting my TD04 on soon and am gonna use a K14 manifold, not welding wastegate, it's going to fit someway or somehow . .lol

It has to be as under the turbo as you can get it. Wish i took pics of mine i used the furthest actuator bolt hole then cut one of the holes off the actuator then bent the rod like an S so it still pull the wastegate shut. I also put a little preload on there to save having to ever touch it again. I can take some pics if you want but you'll have to wait for me to get over the pit with my proper camera and see what i can do Smile I think i used a k14 mani then, i have a k14 here in a box which i removed gently (read hammer) from the manifold! Wink Let me know if theres any more questions you need answering chap, i'll try my best to help out Smile

Looking good mate Big Grin
Was looking at my td04 after I clocked it the other day seems like its easy enough to refit the actuator but I have gone down the weld shut for now as I will be gearbox mounting at some point soon can see it being tight on space down the back tho Smile

Some interesting welding on the downpipe there Tom, should have tacked it and asked me to do it!

Either way will do the job, look foward to seeing it up and running / bringing the coal back into cornwall!!!

Its a bit of a lash but its air tight and doesnt feel like its being held back so it'll do til i need more power and end up with a 3" downpipe haha!

Cheers Spike, Its is brave and tight down the back!

And i also decided to shorten the hoses on the boost controller because i thought the boost was spiking, a bit more driving should reveal whats going on!

Gave it a tug to make sure it was secure, only a little one, and it fell off so sometime in the week i need to drop the engine off the mount and secure it a little better!
